More than 13,000 people are estimated to have participated in the Relief of Derry parade<\/p>\n
Three men are set to appear before court following an annual parade by the Apprentice Boys of Derry.<\/a><\/p>\n More than 13,000 people are estimated to have participated in the Relief of Derry<\/a> parade in the city on Sunday, with 127 bands in attendance.<\/p>\n The Police Service of Northern Ireland<\/a> said they had a significant public safety operation in place.<\/p>\n They also said that not all of the arrests may be directly related to the parade, and that enquiries were ongoing to establish this.<\/p>\n A 47-year-old man was arrested under the Terrorism Act 2000, and later charged with the offence of wearing clothing or having article(s) as member or supporter of proscribed organisation.<\/p>\n A 57-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of provocative conduct in relation to an incident in the Duke Street area of the city shortly before 12.30pm. He was later charged with behaviour likely to cause a breach of the peace, and doing a provocative act.<\/p>\n Both of these men are due to appear before Londonderry Magistrates\u2019 Court on September 2.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, a 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of common assault and disorderly behaviour following an incident on Limavady Road shortly after 5.40pm.<\/p>\n Police said he was charged with common assault, disorderly behaviour, and resisting police, and is due to appear before Derry Magistrates\u2019 Court on Monday.<\/p>\n \u201cAs is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service,\u201d the service said.<\/p>\n \u201cAnother man, aged 35, was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in connection with an altercation reported to have involved two males on Spencer Road at 2.05pm.<\/p>\n \u201cHe has since been released on police bail to allow for further enquiries into what happened.\u201d<\/p>\n Area Commander of Derry City & Strabane, Chief Superintendent Gillian Kearney said not all of the arrests may be directly related to the parade, and that enquiries were ongoing to establish this.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re also appealing for information following criminal damage caused to a poppy wreath after a report was received shortly before 8pm,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s understood the wreath was damaged after it had been laid at the war memorial in The Diamond in the city earlier in the day.<\/p>\n \u201cThe incident is being treated as a sectarian hate crime, and we would appeal to anyone with information or footage which may assist enquiries to make a report using the witness appeal form, https:\/\/reporting.psni.police.uk\/appeals quoting reference number 1552 of 08\/09\/26, or call 101.\u201d<\/p>\n For all the latest news, visit the Belfast Live homepage <\/strong>here<\/a><\/strong> and <\/strong>sign up to our daily newsletter<\/a><\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Police Service of Northern Ireland said they had a significant public safety operation in place.
