The memorial commemorates the men of Wallasey who lost their lives in the South African War between 1899 and 1902, while also recognising local residents who served during the conflict.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It was steam cleaned before being treated with an algicide to help protect it from future biological growth and weathering.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Parks and Countryside Service is now developing a maintenance plan to help ensure the memorial, which features the figure of Britannia, remains in good condition throughout the year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Further improvements are also planned, including the installation of a new brass plaque displaying the names of those who lost their lives in the South African War. \u00a0<\/p>\n
