Cyprus ranked among the top three European Union countries for the number of Ukrainians receiving temporary protection relative to its population in June 2026, according to Eurostat data published Tuesday.<\/p>\n
A total of 31,690 people held temporary protection status in Cyprus at the end of June. The figure was broadly unchanged from May, when 31,620 beneficiaries were recorded.<\/p>\n
With 26.8 beneficiaries for every 1,000 residents, Cyprus had the third-highest rate in the EU. Only Czechia, with 35.8 per 1,000 residents, and Slovakia, with 27.2, recorded higher figures. The EU average stood at 9.8 beneficiaries per 1,000 residents.<\/p>\n
Across the EU, 4.41 million people who had fled Ukraine held temporary protection status on 30 June. The total was 24,380 higher than at the end of May, representing a monthly increase of 0.6%.<\/p>\n
Germany hosted the largest number, with 1.29 million beneficiaries, accounting for 29.2% of the EU total. Poland followed with 961,170 people, or 21.8%, while Czechia recorded 390,810, equivalent to 8.9%.<\/p>\n
The number of people under temporary protection rose in 24 of the EU’s 27 member states between the end of May and the end of June.<\/p>\n
Italy recorded the largest numerical increase, adding 4,115 beneficiaries, an 8.8% rise. Czechia followed with 3,835 additional people, an increase of 1%, while Germany recorded 2,960 more beneficiaries, or 0.2%.<\/p>\n
Poland was the largest of the three countries where numbers fell, recording 6,335 fewer beneficiaries, a decline of 0.7%. Belgium registered a decrease of 35 people and Ireland a reduction of 15.<\/p>\n
Ukrainian nationals accounted for more than 98.5% of all people holding temporary protection across the EU at the end of June. Adult women made up 43.4% of beneficiaries, adult men 27%, and minors 29.6%.<\/p>\n
The temporary protection system was established following an EU Council decision of 4 March 2022, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine led to the mass displacement of people from the country.<\/p>\n
