Scottie Scheffler<\/a>‘s PGA Championship<\/a> celebrations included a hilarious blunder after he appeared to break the iconic Wanamaker Trophy.<\/p>\n

The world No 1 claimed the third major of his career on Sunday night, winning by five shots at Quail Hollow.<\/p>\n

It was an emotional victory for Scheffler, who triumphed only a year after his shocking arrest <\/a>at the 2024 tournament at Valhalla.<\/p>\n

Shortly after sealing victory, Scheffler returned to the 18th green and lifted the Wanamaker Trophy over his head, only for the lid of the 27-pound cup to fall off.<\/p>\n

Scheffler laughed at his mishap – as did the PGA of America executives surrounding the world No 1. ‘I guess he can’t be great at everything,’ CBS reporter Amanda Balionis joked.<\/p>\n

Soon it became clear that the Wanamaker Trophy was in fact damaged. After the lid was put back on, Scheffler noticed that it wasn’t straight.<\/p>\n

The American attempted to bang the lid back into shape before being reassured by one of the officials. ‘We’ll fix it,’ they could be heard telling Scheffler.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The world No 1 triumphed in Charlotte, North Carolina, after holding off a final-round charge by Jon Rahm.<\/p>\n

The Spaniard was in a share of the lead with nine holes to play as Scheffler wobbled on the first half of his final round.<\/p>\n

But the world No 1 ultimately cruised to victory with a run of birdies, while Rahm’s challenge collapsed in the closing holes.<\/p>\n

‘I knew it was going to be a challenging day. Finishing off a major championship is always difficult,’ Scheffler told CBS.<\/p>\n

‘I did a good job of staying patient on the front nine and I didn\u2019t have my best stuff, but I kept myself in it, and I stepped up on the back nine. I had a really good nine holes and that\u2019s about it.’<\/p>\n
