Sheffield United have reportedly made a revised bid for Harry Souttar worth \u00a310million ($AUD 19.1 million) as the battle for the Socceroos captain\u2019s signature goes up a notch.<\/p>\n

Blades coach Chris Wilder is a known admirer of Souttar, having coached the Australian when he was on loan at the club two years ago, but United had an initial bid that is understood to have been around \u00a38 million ($15.3AUD million) rejected by Souttar\u2019s current side Leicester City.<\/p>\n

The Foxes, and particularly their new manager Russell Martin, are desperate to retain Souttar\u2019s services<\/a> as they hope to bounce straight back to the Championship from League One following their relegation last season.<\/p>\n

But the temptation of accepting an offer that, according to John Percy of the UK\u2019s Daily Telegraph<\/a>, consists of a \u00a310million fee plus add-ons, must surely be weighing on the minds of Leicester\u2019s decision-makers.<\/p>\n

Sheffield United are moving closer to the signing of #lcfc<\/a> defender Harry Souttar. United’s second bid of \u00a38m including add-ons rejected but an improved offer of \u00a310m (+ add-ons) is imminent. Souttar has informed Leicester of his desire to leave and join the Blades #sufc<\/a><\/p>\n

Percy also said that Souttar has told Leicester he wants to leave, but Martin is digging his heels in.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith Harry, I don\u2019t know,\u201d Martin told Sky Sports News. \u201cHe captained the team on Saturday (and) he will captain the team this Saturday (against Notts County).<\/p>\n

Martin, who had previously said he doesn\u2019t like to comment on player movements but felt he was forced to because Wilder \u201ckeeps talking about one of our players\u201d, reiterated his stance that he would love to keep Souttar at Leicester and a deal will only be done if all parties are happy with it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a couple of bids but they were nowhere near the valuation of the club and what we value him at,\u201d Martin said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat might change, who knows, but whilst he\u2019s here \u2013 and I\u2019ve said this to everyone \u2013 we\u2019ve had other people that have had interest from elsewhere, had bids and lots of talk around different players, but whilst they\u2019re here, they give everything, we\u2019ll give everything to them and then if they end up leaving, it means it\u2019s right for the club, it\u2019s right for them and we\u2019re in a position where we replace them, then everyone can look each other in the eye, shake hands and be happy.<\/p>\n

\u201cUntil that happens, I\u2019m really happy to have him here, the same with the rest of the players. We just have to be ready in case, if and when, anything does happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

If Souttar does end up leaving for the fee being reported, it would see him occupy second and third place on the list of most expensive transfer fees ever paid for an Australian footballer, having been knocked off top spot by Socceroos teammate Lucas Herrington, who was announced as a Hull City player on Thursday morning in a deal worth $AUD 33 million<\/a>.<\/p>\n
