He has spent the summer working as a farmhand on the Sandringham estate, no doubt perfect preparation for his upcoming undergraduate course.<\/p>\n<p>One Sandringham worker told The Sun of their shock at seeing the 17th in line for the throne mucking in: \u2018Everyone is so used to only seeing James smartly turned out with his family at functions at Christmas and Easter, so I had to do a double take.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of the long hours involved with driving tractors at Sandringham, the source added: \u2018He might be the King\u2019s nephew, but he is more than happy to get his hands dirty and muck in.\u2019 They went on to say that \u2018The King is known for his fondness of the countryside, and he couldn\u2019t be prouder knowing the younger <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tatler.com\/topic\/royals\" isautogenerated=\"true\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">royals<\/a> share his love.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Image may contain Sophie Countess of Wessex Brock Boeser Person Face Head Photography Portrait Adult and Clothing\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"ResponsiveImageContainer-dkeESL cQPiWi responsive-image__image\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2282463845.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The 18-year-old Earl will begin studying at the Royal Agricultural University this September<\/p>\n<p>Samir Hussein<\/p>\n<p>It seems as though the Earl of Wessex has taken this passion further than his fellow next-gen royals. His sister, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tatler.com\/topic\/lady-louise-windsor\" isautogenerated=\"true\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lady Louise Windsor<\/a>, has been studying English literature at the University of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tatler.com\/topic\/st-andrews\" isautogenerated=\"true\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">St Andrews<\/a> since 2022. Like her brother, Lady Louise also took on a summer job before enrolling at University.<\/p>\n<p>This marks a major step for the Earl of Wessex, whose royal life has largely been lived out of the spotlight. As a grandson of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tatler.com\/topic\/queen-elizabeth-ii\" isautogenerated=\"true\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Queen Elizabeth II<\/a>, the Earl of Wessex was entitled to a princely title when he was born in 2007, but his parents, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tatler.com\/topic\/prince-edward\" isautogenerated=\"true\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Prince Edward<\/a> and Sophie, were adamant that they wanted their children to have as normal an upbringing as possible.
