David Foster insisted Meghan Markle is his \u201cdear friend\u201d after going viral for seemingly snubbing her<\/a> at a charity event.<\/p>\n

The composer clarified to People<\/a> on Wednesday that he had \u201calready greeted\u201d Prince Harry and Markle at the 40th anniversary gala for his foundation when the latter reached out her arm \u2014 and he walked right by.<\/p>\n

Foster, 76, claimed he spoke to the couple \u201cat the entrance 10 minutes before the red carpet encounter\u201d over the weekend that has since been circulating on social media<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey both, graciously and selflessly, gave their time and went beyond to engage with everyone,\u201d he continued. \u201cHarry and Meghan are dear friends of mine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyone watching can see there was no awkward moment and certainly no snub,\u201d the Grammy winner concluded, calling uproar over his \u201csimple positioning\u201d snafu a \u201churtful lie.\u201d<\/p>\n

A source told Page Six the same on Wednesday, confirming Markle, 45, and Harry, 41, greeted Foster before the headline-making clip was filmed.<\/p>\n

In the footage, Foster smiled at Harry as the retired royal patted his back \u2014 then stepped past Markle.<\/p>\n

When he rejoined the couple with wife Katharine McPhee<\/a> at his side, Foster leaned back to chat with Harry over the women\u2019s heads.<\/p>\n

Markle and McPhee, 42, appeared to laugh at their husbands\u2019 back-and-forth.<\/p>\n

Social media users expressed mixed feelings over the exchange, which some accusing Foster of \u201cghosting\u201d Markle \u2014 and others denying any drama.<\/p>\n

Reps for Harry and Markle have yet to respond to Page Six\u2019s requests for comment.<\/p>\n

The couple have been friends with Foster and McPhee for years, with Harry sharing an especially close bond<\/a> with the record producer as a \u201cfather figure.\u201d<\/p>\n

McPhee shed light on Foster and Harry\u2019s \u201cfather and son\u201d dynamic<\/a> in a 2020 interview.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the singer has known Markle since they attended the same school as kids \u2014 but not at the same time.<\/p>\n
