In a new interview with British media outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodbible.com\/news\/restaurants-and-bars\/adam-handling-chicken-dog-attack-cornwall-restaurant-466243-20260731\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.foodbible.com\/news\/restaurants-and-bars\/adam-handling-chicken-dog-attack-cornwall-restaurant-466243-20260731\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"FoodBible\" data-node-id=\"0.3\" class=\"body-link css-wwtvcb emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">FoodBible<\/a>, he is pulling back the curtain on what meal times actually looked like at the historic estate, and the picture is considerably more relaxed than most people would expect.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"1\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">According to McGrady, the royal family\u2019s summer barbecues at Balmoral were a hands-on family affair, with members of the family taking charge of individual courses rather than leaving everything to the kitchen staff. \u201cYou&#8217;d often get Princess Anne come down to the kitchen and say: \u2018I\u2019m in charge of the first course tonight, what can I take?\u2019\u201d he recalls. \u201cThey worked as a family on creating this meal, which they loved. They weren&#8217;t afraid to let their hair down and get stuck in.\u201d Prince Edward liked to handle dessert, with McGrady noting the kitchen staff would help prepare pancake batter in advance for the prince to cook. \u201cHe\u2019d want to fill them with things like raspberries or strawberries from the garden with ice cream.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"2\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">But it was Prince Philip, McGrady says, who was the most enthusiastic cook of the group. \u201cThey would go off and take barbecues at Balmoral. He loved to cook and cared about foods and recipes. He\u2019d go on to ask what we could marinate them with and what vegetables were in the garden,\u201d McGrady says. \u201cHe\u2019d often walk the gardens and see what was in there. He loved local produce. Lord Lichfield, a former royal photographer, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/uknews\/theroyalfamily\/8273569\/Prince-Philip-the-Duke-you-dont-know.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/uknews\/theroyalfamily\/8273569\/Prince-Philip-the-Duke-you-dont-know.html\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"observed in 1972\" data-node-id=\"5.1\" class=\"body-link css-wwtvcb emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">observed in 1972<\/a> that at Balmoral the royals \u201cact as normal people\u2014to a point.
