Despite Australia reaping a surprise victory in the women\u2019s 100m free by Meg Harris<\/a><\/strong> over Gretchen <\/strong>and taking the women\u2019s 4x200m free relay, the depth of the United States rendered the nation further ahead on the medal table through day two of Pan Pacs.<\/p>\n

Multiple events saw more than one American land on the podium, beginning with the men\u2019s 400m IM. Behind winner\u00a0Tomoyuki Matsushita<\/a><\/strong> of Japan, it was Carson Foster<\/strong><\/a><\/strong> and Bobby Finke<\/strong><\/a> <\/strong>who captured the minor medals to add to the stars n\u2019 stripes haul.<\/p>\n

The men\u2019s 100m free was another two medal event, with\u00a0Jack Alexy<\/strong><\/a><\/strong> topping the field, which included Patrick Sammon<\/a><\/strong> snagging silver ahead of Brazilian Gui Caribe<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Katherine Berkoff<\/a><\/strong> produced an American Record en route to winning the women\u2019s 50m back, with teammate Regan Smith<\/strong><\/a><\/strong> immediately behind to capture another two medals.<\/p>\n

Additional American winners included\u00a0McKenzie Siroky<\/a><\/strong> in the women\u2019s 100m breast and Quintin McCarty<\/a><\/strong> in the men\u2019s 50m backstroke, in addition to the United States\u2019 men\u2019s 4x200m free relay.<\/p>\n

Whereas the U.S. and rivals Australia were only separated by one in terms of the number of golds through day one of this competition, the former now has a 5 gold lead over the latter and also now possesses 9 more medals in total at the halfway point.<\/p>\n
