Suede<\/a> have announced their new album \u2018Antidepressants\u2019 and shared its lead single \u2018Disingtegrate\u2019 \u2013 check it out below.<\/p>\n

The band\u2019s 10th studio album will be released on September 5 via BMG \u2013 pre-order it here<\/a> \u2013 and later that month, the NME Godlike Genius recipients will take over London\u2019s Southbank Centre for a series of four exclusive headline shows.<\/p>\n

It is the follow-up to their acclaimed 2022 album \u2018Autofiction<\/a>\u2019, and based on \u2018Disintegrate\u2019, it will see the band further embrace goth-flavoured punk influences, as also teased by a recently-shared live video for the new album\u2019s title track<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the album, frontman Brett Anderson has said: \u201cIf \u2018Autofiction\u2019 was our punk record, \u2018Antidepressants\u2019 is our post-punk record. It\u2019s about the tensions of modern life, the paranoia, the anxiety, the neurosis. We are all striving for connection in a disconnected world. This was the feel I wanted the songs to have. The album is called \u2018Antidepressants\u2019. This is broken music for broken people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Antidepressants\u2019 was recorded live with Ed Buller, who produced a number of Suede\u2019s records since they first worked together on debut single \u2018The Drowners\u2019 in 1992. \u201cIt is genuinely exciting being in this band,\u201d Anderson continued. \u201cIt feels like we\u2019re still pushing creatively.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bassist Mat Osman added: \u201cThis is a widescreen and ambitious record. It\u2019s a big stage record and it\u2019s taking it up a gear.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The quartet of London shows will be Suede\u2019s first gigs at the Southbank Centre since playing David Bowie<\/a>\u2019s Meltdown Festival in 2002. Anderson has said: \u201cExpect old songs, new songs, borrowed songs, blue songs, drama, melody, noise, sweat and a couple of surprises.\u201d<\/p>\n

The fourth show will be Suede\u2019s first-ever full orchestral headline show, in collaboration with the Paraorchestra. Southbank Centre members can access an exclusive ticket presale at 10am on Wednesday (May 21), while fans who pre-order the album\u00a0here<\/a> can access a presale code from 10am on Thursday (May 22). Tickets go on general sale at 10am on Friday (May 23).<\/p>\n

    Back in 2022, Anderson told NME about the band\u2019s plans for their next album<\/a>, saying: \u201cThe next record that we\u2019re planning to write, and have already started, is much more experimental. I don\u2019t really know if there\u2019s an arc with [\u2018Autofiction\u2019]. I\u2019m not seeing it as a selection of albums. You just have to do it one at a time, really. I do think of those three records as [being] together, especially \u2018Night Thoughts<\/a>\u2019 and \u2018The Blue Hour\u2019<\/a>, but the next record will be completely different.\u201d<\/p>\n

    He added: \u201cI\u2019d love to think that our most daring work is ahead of us. That\u2019s a really exciting prospect \u2013 that a band at our stage of our career haven\u2019t just settled for running through the motions. I love making new records: it makes my heart beat faster, it\u2019s what I get up for in the morning.\u201d<\/p>\n

    In\u00a0a four-star review of \u2018Autofuction<\/a>\u2018,\u00a0NME\u00a0concluded: \u201cThis is a Suede record, so there are moments of aching majesty \u2013 see the tormented \u2018It\u2019s Always The Quiet Ones\u2019, \u2018Turn Off Your Brain And Yell\u2019 and the hopelessly devoted \u2018What Am I Without You\u2019 (which sees Anderson giving himself to his fans) \u2013 but, all in all, \u2018Autofiction\u2019 finds the indie greats getting back in the garage to make a racket.
