\t\t\t\tWrexham<\/a> are hoping to close a deal for Leicester City<\/a> defender Harry Souttar this weekend, as reported by the Daily Mail<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wrexham<\/a> are expected to be busy in the final couple of weeks of the transfer window<\/a>. The Red Dragons smashed their transfer record earlier this week to sign Anthony Patterson<\/a>, and they are prepared to spend further.<\/p>\n

Phil Parkinson\u2019s side are looking to bring Harry Souttar to the club before the deadline, according to the Daily Mail<\/a>. Wrexham<\/a> are hoping to sign Souttar ahead of Sheffield United<\/a> who are in the race for the Leicester City<\/a> man.<\/p>\n

The Welsh side offered around \u00a37.5million for the Australia international earlier this week and hope to have the edge over rivals Sheffield United<\/a>. The Blades are reportedly prepared to offer closer to \u00a310m for Souttar, whether Wrexham<\/a> would want to match that is unknown.<\/p>\n

Sheffield United<\/a> may be ahead of the race in the players head after his previous stint with them. He is reportedly keen on a return to the Blades.<\/p>\n

Why is there so much interest in Harry Souttar?<\/p>\n

Souttar has endured a frustrating couple of years since rupturing his Achilles while on loan at Sheffield United<\/a>. Recovering from such a serious injury is difficult enough, but the Scotland-born defender was also forced to contend with further setbacks during his rehabilitation.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old finally returned towards the end of last season, starting Leicester City<\/a>\u2019s final two games of the 2025\/26 campaign. Souttar made an immediate impact, scoring in the 1-1 draw with Millwall<\/a>, although his efforts could not prevent Leicester City<\/a> from dropping into League One.<\/p>\n

It is therefore little surprise that Souttar has attracted interest from clubs in the second tier, particularly after playing a key role in Australia\u2019s run to the FIFA World Cup<\/a> round of 32. However, his strong form has also ensured that any potential deal will come at a significant cost.<\/p>\n

The Verdict: Wrexham<\/a> need a centre-back before the window shuts<\/p>\n

While Wrexham<\/a> had an impressive season in 2025\/26, only five teams conceded more goals than them in the Championship. The defence needs to be improved if they are to become a promotion contender.<\/p>\n

Phil Parkinson\u2019s side have already signed Danny Imray<\/a> from Crystal Palace as a new option at right wing-back. Souttar is not the first centre-back to be linked with Wrexham<\/a> in recent days either.<\/p>\n

Harry Souttar\u2019s Championship stats<\/p>\n

They are also pursuing a move for Henrik Falchener<\/a> from Viking Stavanger. Wrexham<\/a> have already submitted two offers for Falchener \u2013 the most recent was \u00a38.1m \u2013 but have seen them both rejected.<\/p>\n

If The Red Dragons match that bid in their pursuit of Souttar, they may just win the race. Wrexham<\/a> will have the means to outbid their rivals if needed.<\/p>\n
