another takeaway will turn a north Bristol high street into a \u201cfast-food wasteland\u201d, neighbours fear.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The proposed outlet on Ridingleaze, Lawrence Weston \u2013 understood to be a fish and chip shop \u2013 was submitted to the city council less than three weeks ago but has already prompted dozens of objections.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">There are five existing takeaways at the strip of shops, including a chippy, and residents are worried that yet another will leave the area \u201coversaturated\u201d with similar establishments that could force some to close, along with concerns about smells, litter, and unhealthy eating.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Locals are pleading with the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/bristol-city-council\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">local authority\u2019s<\/a> planning department to <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/pa.bristol.gov.uk\/online-applications\/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&amp;keyVal=SVMGTKDNJEE00\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">reject the application<\/a> to change the use of the former Kim\u2019s Domestic Appliances store and have suggested other uses that will benefit the community, such as a grocers, library or butchers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">One of the objectors wrote: \u201cAs a resident of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/lawrence-weston\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Lawrence Weston<\/a> of 50 years I feel that we really don&#8217;t need any more takeaway or food shops.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThis is an absolutely disgraceful thing to suggest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Another said: \u201cThere are already five fast-food places on Ridingleaze with each vying for the limited custom available and make enough to cover rents and business rates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cOf these five there is a fish and chip shop that has served the area for many years \u2013 the area does not need another.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIf the application is approved, Ridingleaze is in danger of becoming a fast-food wasteland.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">One resident wrote: \u201cThe street is oversaturated, and introducing another food business here will not create new demand, but divide it further.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A neighbour said: \u201cWe don&#8217;t need yet another food outlet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cPut something useful there instead [like a] butcher or hardware, even a decent bakery that we had many moons ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Another objector said: \u201cWe don&#8217;t need another takeaway, we need an actual library, better stuff for babies and toddlers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A resident wrote: \u201cIntroducing another [takeaway] would contribute to an oversaturation of similar businesses, reducing variety and negatively affecting the character and balance of our local high street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThe proposed location is in close proximity to a public park and several schools.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThis raises serious concerns about encouraging unhealthy eating habits among children and young people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The owner of a neighbouring takeaway said in their objection: \u201cThe proposed development offers no new benefit to the area, which is already well-served in terms of takeaway options.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cRather, it threatens to destabilise the local economy and disrupt the delicate balance we have managed to maintain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThe increased competition could lead to business closures, resulting in vacant units, urban decay, and loss of community services.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">No date has yet been set
