The music of Duke Ellington certainly draws on a number of traditions to create something still fresh. <\/p>\n

It is significant that the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) was established more than 40 years ago with the surviving members of Ellington\u2019s orchestra by the now-retiring artistic director of the JLCO, Wynton Marsalis.<\/p>\n

The first half consisted of a selection of works from the Duke\u2019s prolific output, while the second was a single piece divided into three coloured sections \u2013 Black, Brown, and Beige.<\/p>\n

Each of these of was further subdivided into three parts. <\/p>\n

All expertly played and accompanied at different times by a splendid set of guest soloists. <\/p>\n
