Amanda and Jonathan are currently trapped under this continuous cloud of ash in Sicily, and so the band can no longer perform at Kelvingrove Bandstand tonight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;We are gutted, but hopefully we will all be under Glasgow skies by next Friday 21st to play the Art School. Ciao for now!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Mount Etna erupting in 2017 (Image: Shawn Appel on Unsplash)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Catania&#8217;s airport remained closed until Saturday afternoon, which falls on the Ferragosto holiday that marks the height of the Italian summer holiday season when millions flock to the sea and mountains, deserting Italian cities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">While Etna&#8217;s activity often interrupts flights at the airport, located 30 kilometres (20 miles) south of the volcano, this is the longest emergency since 2002.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;Volcanic ash can be a great risk for aircraft,&#8221; said Boris Behncke, a researcher at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology&#8217;s Etna Observatory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;It can be sucked into the motors, and force them to stall.
