Sheffield United\u2019s Twitter account was left in chaos after being hacked to poke fun at one of their rivals\u2019 legendary players. Fans started noticing a number of bizarre posts on the Blades\u2019 account on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n
One supporter asked what the hacker thought of Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> star Barry Bannan<\/a>, to which they replied: “washed.” A follow-up tweet wrote: \u201cWhy so much hate on Barry Bannan? Should I fire him??\u201d<\/p>\n Another read: \u201cOk i just love barry bannan,\u201d alongside a screenshot of the midfielder, with another offering reading: \u201cI’m following everyone who trash talk barry bannan. I just figured out that he is from another other club.\u201d<\/p>\n Bannan, 35, has been with the Blades\u2019 fierce rivals Sheffield Wednesday since a 2015 move from Crystal Palace<\/a>. He has made nearly 450 appearances for the Yorkshire club, helping the club to promotion from League One in 2023.<\/p>\n The hackers however were keen to move on from Bannan as they followed up with another post reading: \u201cLet’s forget Barry Bannan. It read: \u201cDue to an online attack, Sheffield United’s X social media account has been temporarily compromised.<\/p>\n \u201cAny posts, interactions or private messages made from the account are not authorised by the club. United will keep supporters updated about the status of the account, and when access is reclaimed.\u201d<\/p>\n All posts were then quickly deleted from the Blades\u2019 account, with normal service seemingly being resumed. A follow-up statement read: “#SUFC<\/a> can confirm that the account has been reclaimed, and all posts made by the hackers have been removed. The club would like to apologise to anyone offended by what the hackers posted to our page; these posts do not represent the views of anyone at Sheffield United.”<\/p>\n Who will win the Championship play-off final? The Yorkshire side will be aiming to seal an instant return to the Premier League<\/a> this weekend as they take on Sunderland<\/a> in the Championship playoff final at Wembley. Chris Wilder\u2019s men failed to seal automatic promotion due to a late-season stutter.<\/p>\n They still managed to book their spot at Wembley in style by beating Bristol City 6-0 on aggregate in the semi finals. United sealed a dominant 3-0 success at Ashton Gate in the first leg before repeating that scoreline at Bramall Lane.<\/p>\n Should the Blades go up at Wembley, it would represent their third promotion to the Premier League in the past six years.
