It seemed the 49ers were just as sick and tired of the goalkeeping troubles that have plagued Elland Road as the Leeds United<\/a> supporters.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As a result, they forked out \u00a340million to sign James Trafford from Manchester City<\/a>. At just 23, Trafford is one of the most promising young goalkeepers in Europe. Many also expect him to go on and become England\u2019s number one.<\/p>\n

However, with Karl Darlow now at Manchester United and Lucas Perri<\/a> looking as if he will leave this summer too, we need to sign a backup goalkeeper.<\/p>\n

Recent reports have seen us linked with a \u2018keeper from the Bundesliga. However, there are multiple hurdles that could prevent a potential deal. <\/p>\n

Leeds United linked with Michael Zetterer<\/p>\n

According to reports from Absolut Fussball, via Bulinews<\/a>, Leeds are reportedly interested in Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Michael Zetterer. <\/p>\n

The 31-year-old German made 22 Bundesliga appearances for Frankfurt last season as they finished 8th, three points off the 7th and final European spot.<\/p>\n

Zetterer has reportedly been identified as a replacement for Perri, who seems to be on the verge of joining Torino<\/a>. However, there\u2019s a problem.<\/p>\n

The report states that at the moment, the shot-stopper has no intention of leaving Frankfurt. Zetterer believes there is a possibility that he goes into next season as their first choice.<\/p>\n

However, if Frankfurt do bring another goalkeeper in and annoint him as their first choice, this would increase the possibility of Zetterer leaving.<\/p>\n

It sounds like Leeds should stay clear of Michael Zetterer<\/p>\n

From reading the report, it sounds like Leeds should stay clear of the German \u2018keeper.<\/p>\n

By all accounts, it sounds like Zetterer still has intentions of playing regularly.<\/p>\n

At Leeds, there is absolutely no chance of this happening now with Trafford in between the sticks. At best, Zetterer could be our goalie for the cup competitions.<\/p>\n

The 49ers need to make it abundantly clear to any other goalkeeper they sign this summer that they will be playing a backup role to Trafford unless he suffers a major injury or goes through an incredibly poor run of form.<\/p>\n

The last thing we need is to sign another goalkeeper who quickly becomes disgruntled after having not played much before demanding another move in a year from now. Ideally, any backup we bring in will have a wealth of top-flight experience too. <\/p>\n
