<\/a><\/p>\nThe investment will expand DataVita\u2019s existing DV1 data centre and fund the construction of a new data centre, DV3. The capacity of both is contracted to AI cloud firm CoreWeave, the infrastructure provider to many of the world\u2019s leading AI labs, under a 15-year lease agreement.<\/p>\n
The financing will enable the delivery of Scotland\u2019s first AI data centres within a designated AI Growth Zone, strengthening sovereign AI capability and driving growth in the wider Glasgow City Region.<\/p>\n
This development of DV1 and DV3 will act as the first step in a larger planned data centre campus in the area, helping to establish North Lanarkshire as a key location for AI infrastructure in the UK. The two developments financed by this facility will create around 600 jobs during construction as well as c.100 permanent high-skilled jobs once completed.<\/p>\n
DataVita has been part of Scotland\u2019s digital infrastructure for more than ten years and is the country\u2019s largest independent data centre developer and operator.<\/p>\n
The company delivers AI infrastructure end to end, utilising low carbon electricity, data centres, sovereign cloud and connectivity through to the AI platforms its customers run. Its customers include central government, local authorities and universities, which rely on DataVita to keep critical national workloads on sovereign UK infrastructure.<\/p>\n
Earlier this year, DataVita\u2019s North Lanarkshire site was awarded Scotland\u2019s first AI Growth Zone designation, recognising the company\u2019s role in building the next generation of UK AI infrastructure.<\/p>\n
This project marks the National Wealth Fund\u2019s first support for domestic compute capacity and supports both the Government\u2019s Compute Roadmap and Scotland\u2019s recently published five\u2011year AI strategy, which aims to grow the UK\u2019s AI computing capacity through AI Growth Zones that attract investment in digital infrastructure and create high-skilled jobs across the country.<\/p>\n
The UK Government estimates that, fully adopted, AI could be worth up to \u00a347 billion a year to the UK economy over the next decade.<\/p>\n
\u201cAI is already helping scientists discover new medicines, supporting better public services and helping businesses get more done,\u201d UK AI Minister Kanishka Narayan said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe countries that build the infrastructure behind this technology will be the ones that attract investment, create jobs and help shape the industries of the future.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s why today\u2019s announcements matter. They will help ensure Scotland is at the forefront of one of the biggest economic opportunities of our time, bringing investment, reindustrialisation and opportunities to communities like Lanarkshire.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor local people, that means more than new buildings and technology. It means the chance to develop new skills, access new careers and benefit from the growth and investment that AI can bring.\u201d<\/p>\n
Danny Quinn, Managing Director at DataVita, said: \u201cThere is plenty of talk about AI infrastructure just now. This project is being delivered: work is well advanced on site, every megawatt is contracted, and the first facility completes this year.<\/p>\n
