Wirral Council has given the green light for a section of Wirral coastline to be used as a new location for the popular entertainment brand.

With a number of successful venues across Merseyside, The Bus Yard is set to establish a new site at the North Wirral Coastal Country Park, near New Brighton. The site sits on land close to Wallasey Golf Club, and will include a bus and a collection of repurposed containers serving various foods and drinks.

Despite concerns raised by a local resident regarding potential noise pollution, litter, and antisocial behaviour, Wirral Council’s planning committee has approved the plans.

The venue will be seasonal, only operating during the warmer months. Between 1 April and 30 August each year, the venue will be open from 10am to 8pm. Outside of its operational months, the site will be cleared and returned to its original condition.

Speaking at the committee meeting, Andy Laird, one of the directors at The Bus Yard told councillors, “Our venues are very family orientated. There’s a perception of it being an antisocial rave and drinking. If it was those things we wouldn’t have lasted two minutes.” He added that The Bus Yard staff actively collect litter.

As a council report explains, “The land is owned by Wirral Borough Council and the applicant will therefore be required to adhere to certain requirements, including the control of windblown sand, litter, and the general upkeep of the site.”

Addressing concerns regarding noise, Mr Laird said, “If the music’s blaring and you’re eating your food you’re not going to stick around. It’s strictly background music. We have acoustic singers and once in a blue moon we have DJs playing soul, funk, and disco; which is all at a minimal level.”

A condition included within the planning approval dictates the site must be cleared by no more than seven days after 30 September. Similarly, the structures cannot be placed before seven days before 1 April. The rationale behind the condition is to ensure the site is indeed seasonal.

Why not follow Birkenhead News on Facebook, Bluesky, WhatsApp, Twitter, and Threads. You can also send story ideas or letters to the editor to news@birkenhead.news

Plans for The Bus Yard to establish a new food and drinks venue have been approved.
