{"id":115776,"date":"2025-05-20T01:14:10","date_gmt":"2025-05-20T01:14:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/115776\/"},"modified":"2025-05-20T01:14:10","modified_gmt":"2025-05-20T01:14:10","slug":"rocket-lab-launched-satellites-to-help-ukraine-in-war-against-russia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/115776\/","title":{"rendered":"Rocket Lab-launched satellites to help Ukraine in war against Russia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/4KUKMSJ_53532173360_7fabd1350a_5k_jpg\" width=\"1050\" height=\"589\" alt=\"Rocket Lab mission about to launch at M\u0101hia - mission to look for space junk on behalf of Astroscale Japan.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"photo-captioned__information\">\nRocket Lab mission about to launch at M\u0101hia in 2024.<br \/>\nPhoto: Supplied \/ Rocket Lab\n<\/p>\n<p>A group of satellites that Rocket Lab has helped put into space is poised to aid Ukraine&#8217;s military in the war with Russia.<\/p>\n<p>Rocket Lab USA launched its third mission for Japanese company iQPS at the weekend from its spaceport on M\u0101hia Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>It has been widely reported <a href=\"https:\/\/kyivindependent.com\/japan-to-provide-ukraine-with-geospatial-intelligence-media-reports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Japan has agreed to provide Ukraine&#8217;s military intelligence agency<\/a> for the first time with advanced synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery from satellites run by iQPS (Institute for Q-shu Pioneers of Space).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Another fantastic launch by the Electron team to flawlessly deliver another iQPS mission to orbit,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocketlabusa.com\/updates\/rocket-lab-successfully-launches-third-mission-for-iqps-in-multi-launch-contract-sets-schedule-for-the-next-iqps-mission\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rocket Lab founder Sir Peter Beck said<\/a> on 17 May.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rnz.co.nz\/news\/political\/544065\/nz-s-part-in-helping-ukraine-find-new-satellite-images\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ukraine has been buying commercial satellite imagery<\/a> since the war began but ramped up its quest for it early this year after the Trump Administration temporarily suspended its official satellite imagery support for Kiev.<\/p>\n<p>SAR can see through clouds to map two- or three-dimensional images.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, a Finnish start-up ICEYE, that operated the largest constellation of 48 SAR satellites, provided two-fifths of the targeting data used by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/ukraine-gur-military-intelligence-agency-russia-iceye-sar-satellite-imagery-1977397\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ukrainian intelligence for high-profile strikes<\/a> on Russian logistics hubs.<\/p>\n<p>Based at Kyushu University, iQPS had five SAR observation satellites in orbit, and was aiming for three dozen; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocketlabusa.com\/missions\/missions-launched\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two of these were launched<\/a> from M\u0101hia in December 2023 and March this year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/radionz.us6.list-manage.com\/subscribe?u=211a938dcf3e634ba2427dde9&amp;id=b3d362e693\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sign up for Ng\u0101 Pitopito K\u014drero, a daily newsletter<\/a> <b>curated by our editors and delivered straight to your inbox every weekday.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Rocket Lab mission about to launch at M\u0101hia in 2024.
