Walsh, was awarded the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/sean-connery\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sean-connery_1\" data-tag=\"sean-connery\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sean Connery<\/a> Prize for Feature Filmmaking Excellence, voted on by the audience and funded by the Connery Foundation. The winner receives \u00a350,000 ($68,055) to fund future projects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/skintown-jack-rowan-chris-walley-film-clip-ireland-troubles-1236672104\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">portrait of Northern Ireland<\/a> youth in the 1990s, Skintown\u00a0sees\u00a0best friends Vinny and Jonty party, cut deals and plan to escape small-town life in Northern Ireland during the 1994 ceasefire, a period known as the Troubles. The festival called the film a \u201chumorous, poignant and terrifically acted period piece with a killer \u201890s soundtrack.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn an interview about Skintown, Walsh and actor Jack Rowan <a href=\"https:\/\/%E2%80%9CIt%20Was%20a%20Bumpy%20Ride!%E2%80%9D\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">told THR<\/a> that making the film \u201cwas a bumpy ride!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMeanwhile, the Edinburgh festival also revealed on Wednesday evening that the Thelma Schoonmaker Prize for Short Filmmaking Excellence was awarded to Grief Room, directed by Sinda Agha. The winner receives \u00a315,000 ($20,416) to fund future projects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cEmily Beecham, Daisy Bevan and Louisa Harland are on peak form in this film about estranged sisters who reunite at their mother\u2019s deathbed,\u201d the festival highlighted. And a synopsis teases: \u201cUsing experimental tech to interpret their mother\u2019s thoughts, the youngest becomes convinced of an urgent, final message they must uncover.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tEIFF CEO and festival director Paul Ridd lauded this year\u2019s film lineup. \u201cThe standard of films and filmmakers competing this year at EIFF has been exceedingly high,\u201d he said. \u201cWe are so proud of being able to launch this terrific work into the world, and we wish all our filmmakers the very best as they continue their journeys with their films and with their careers. Grief Room is a contained gem of wit, warmth and sadness, and Skintown is a beautiful, funny and very moving film. We are delighted to see that audiences have responded so enthusiastically to both films.
