{"id":1162289,"date":"2026-08-22T02:36:59","date_gmt":"2026-08-22T02:36:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1162289\/"},"modified":"2026-08-22T02:36:59","modified_gmt":"2026-08-22T02:36:59","slug":"a-new-european-union-challenges-infantino-we-want-a-different-fifa-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1162289\/","title":{"rendered":"A new European union challenges Infantino: we want a different FIFA president"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Danish Football Union &#8220;DBU&#8221; confirmed today, Friday, that it will not back Gianni Infantino in the upcoming elections for the presidency of the International Federation of Association Football &#8220;FIFA&#8221;, stressing that his tenure has triggered a &#8220;fundamental crisis of confidence&#8221; towards the organisation&#8217;s leadership.<\/p>\n<p>Fresh criticism has followed Infantino over his project, later abandoned, to privatise part of the World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Danish Union, that attempt caused a &#8220;fundamental crisis of confidence towards FIFA&#8217;s leadership&#8221;. It noted that &#8220;the subsequent apologies&#8221; and &#8220;the withdrawal of the proposal&#8221; did not change its position.<\/p>\n<p>The DBU withheld its support from Infantino at the last elections in 2022, and it will do the same at the elections scheduled for 18 March 2027, during FIFA&#8217;s 77th Congress in Rabat, Morocco.<\/p>\n<p>Read also<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:start\"><b><strong>The only exception: why will referees not be able to speak to fans from Real Madrid&#8217;s stadium?<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:start\"><b><strong>Deco tries to offload a Barcelona player, and Mendes looks for a way out<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Danish Union said: &#8220;The DBU, in cooperation with UEFA and our international colleagues, will seek to ensure that member associations, in the 2027 presidential elections, have a genuine choice and a credible alternative capable of uniting FIFA across the confederations, and rebuilding the trust that has been shattered&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Nominations for the FIFA presidential elections must be submitted by 18 November.
