Church Wharf will contain 415 new homes, a 130-room hotel and retail and hospitality spaceBolton’s skyline will be transformed by the development<\/p>\n

Long awaited plans to develop the Church Wharf site in Bolton<\/a> town centre have been submitted.<\/p>\n

Manchester-based developer, Watson, has submitted the planning application to Bolton Council for 415 new homes.<\/p>\n

The four-phase development will also feature a 130-bedroom hotel, as well as commercial spaces for bars, restaurants and shops. Watson said Church Wharf is designed to complement other ongoing residential developments in the area, including Moor Lane and Deansgate<\/a> Gardens.<\/p>\n

The new homes will comprise a mixture of one, two and three-bedroom houses and apartments. Watson said the \u2018a selection will be available for affordable tenure\u2019.<\/p>\n

The planning application follows Bolton Council\u2019s provisional agreement to sell the land to Watson for just \u00a34 in early 2024.<\/p>\n

The development is close to Bolton Parish Church<\/p>\n

The scheme is supported by \u00a35m in funding from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority brownfield housing fund pledged to help regenerate the long-dormant riverside site.<\/p>\n

Bolton Council originally approved outline plans for Church Wharf, in the heart of the town centre bordering Bolton Parish Church and St Peter\u2019s Way, in 2019.<\/p>\n

The site has been completely cleared but a deal with developer Muse between 2018 and 2023 failed to result in any building work. The development is set to be built in four phases with 12 new blocks built.<\/p>\n

Rob Watson, director of Watson, said: \u201cWe are delighted to have submitted plans for such a transformative project. \u201cChurch Wharf is not just about new buildings, it\u2019s about revitalising Bolton town centre with much-needed housing, dynamic commercial and leisure spaces, together with a hotel that will bolster the local economy, enhancing the lives of the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are committed to making a long-lasting, positive impact on the communities we serve.\u201d If approved, construction will begin this summer, with completion planned for 2029.<\/p>\n

Commercial space is planned as well as more than 400 homes<\/p>\n

Watson said their intention for Church Wharf was to \u2018revitalise this key gateway location\u2019 to become \u2018a vibrant neighbourhood, home to more than 1,000 residents\u2019.<\/p>\n

Once completed, it is projected to generate \u00a37m in annual household spending on local goods and services. They said nn independent economic impact assessment has projected that the development will create 1,500 jobs, and add \u00a364m gross value to the Bolton economy.<\/p>\n
