London Mayor Sadiq Khan has responded to concerns over a migrant encampment on Park Lane, where residents of the makeshift settlement have been accused of defecating on the streets and drinking in public.<\/p>\n

The Mayor of London’s office defended migration as a “huge strength” of the capital in correspondence with a concerned Londoner who had raised issues about the encampment.<\/p>\n

The concerned Londoner wrote to the Mayor after their son noticed the encampment while attending school.<\/p>\n

Rather than addressing the specific complaints, Khan’s team emphasised London’s tradition of welcoming migrants and providing “sanctuary to those who need it”, prompting fierce criticism from political opponents.<\/p>\n

“They enrich our society, communities, culture and economy in myriad ways, making London a welcoming, diverse and truly global city and bringing cultural energy to Londoners’ ever-evolving shared identity.”<\/p>\n

Khan’s team also noted that the Mayor is “doing everything in his power to end rough sleeping in London by 2030”. <\/p>\n
