{"id":11654,"date":"2025-04-11T19:33:10","date_gmt":"2025-04-11T19:33:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/11654\/"},"modified":"2025-04-11T19:33:10","modified_gmt":"2025-04-11T19:33:10","slug":"ben-habib-demands-trade-war-with-eu-as-extremely-concerning-fishing-row-breaks-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/11654\/","title":{"rendered":"Ben Habib demands TRADE WAR with EU as \u2018extremely concerning\u2019 fishing row breaks out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ben Habib, former deputy leader for Reform UK, says the UK should be \u201cextremely concerned\u201d about a supposed \u00a3100bn a year it is losing to Europe. <\/p>\n<p>French President Emmanuel Macron says that a UK-France defence partnership for Ukraine might not happen unless France get increased access to British fishing waters. <\/p>\n<p>The statement has paused negotiations for a new \u20ac150 billion joint defence fund as France refuse to engage in the pact until Britain meet their demands on fishing rights. <\/p>\n<p>It happened as part of a meeting at Nato headquarters of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (UDCG). <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"9d197\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"06c0e4426178a7cadaadd3049fdc5926\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%201280%20720'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/ben-habib-and-ursula-von-der-leyen.png\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" alt=\"Ben Habib and Ursula von der Leyen\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Ben Habib wants a trade war with the EU<\/p>\n<p> GB NEWS \/ REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>The EU\u2019s top foreign officials mocked the French announcement, with Estonia\u2019s former prime minister Kaja Kallas criticising Macron\u2019s government to the BBC today revealing she was &#8220;surprised how important fish are, considering the security situation&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Habib spoke out against the UK government\u2019s handling of the situation on the Martin Daubney show, claiming Britain\u2019s Brexit deal is to blame for the latest fishing row. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"5d341\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"2e596edf4e165823d51283dc9dca1f20\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%201920%201080'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/ben-habib-and-martin-daubney.png\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" alt=\"Ben Habib and Martin Daubney\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Ben Habib joined Martin Daubney on GB News<\/p>\n<p> GB NEWS<\/p>\n<p>He said that whilst Britain\u2019s share of fishing waters did initially increase, the imminent future is less certain. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no mechanism in that deal for us to take control of our own waters from June 2026 onwards.&#8221;, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Habib warns that other hard-negotiated parts of the Brexit deal could be compromised to preserve Britain\u2019s waters from next year. <\/p>\n<p>He told GB News: \u201cThe French and the EU have a continued right to go on fishing our waters.
