Affected users have been hit with BitLocker Recovery screens and even dreaded Blue Screens of Death after downloading and trying to install the latest critical update.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWindows 10 might repeatedly display the BitLocker recovery screen at startup,\u201d the company warned, <a class=\"color-link\" href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/release-health\/status-windows-10-22h2#windows-10-might-repeatedly-display-the-bitlocker-recovery-screen-at-startup\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/release-health\/status-windows-10-22h2#windows-10-might-repeatedly-display-the-bitlocker-recovery-screen-at-startup\" aria-label=\"confirming an out of bounds update\">confirming an out of bounds update<\/a> via Microsoft\u2019s Update Catalog.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"embed-base color-body color-body-border link-embed embed-0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/zakdoffman\/2025\/05\/19\/warning-is-your-phone-at-risk-from-this-chinese-spyware\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Warning\u2014Is Your Phone, PC At Risk From This Chinese Spyware?\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"forbesEmbedly:https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/zakdoffman\/2025\/05\/19\/warning-is-your-phone-at-risk-from-this-chinese-spyware\/\">ForbesWarning\u2014Is Your Phone, PC At Risk From This Chinese Spyware?By Zak Doffman<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The issue affects users \u201con devices with Intel Trusted Execution Technology (TXT) enabled on 10th generation or later Intel vPro processors.\u201d Those who have not yet deployed May\u2019s update should install the out of bounds update instead.<\/p>\n<p>For those who have tried to install the update and are now stuck, Microsoft says:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u201c\u200bTo start Windows, temporarily disable Intel VT for Direct I\/O (also known as VTD or VTX) and Intel Trusted Execution Technology (TXT) in your BIOS \/ UEFI settings. This step will require entering your BitLocker recovery key.<\/li>\n<li>\u200bInstall update KB5061768 via the Microsoft Update Catalog.<\/li>\n<li>\u200bAfter restarting Windows, return to your BIOS \/ UEFI settings and re-enable Intel VT for Direct I\/O (also known as VTD or VTX) and TXT. (This step will require entering your BitLocker recovery key.)\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a class=\"color-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.windowslatest.com\/2025\/05\/15\/windows-10-kb5058379-locks-pcs-bitlocker-recovery-triggered-on-boot-bsods\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.windowslatest.com\/2025\/05\/15\/windows-10-kb5058379-locks-pcs-bitlocker-recovery-triggered-on-boot-bsods\/\" aria-label=\"Windows Latest\">Windows Latest<\/a> was first to flag the issue, reporting that \u201cthe KB5058379 install starts, but ends up at \u2018Enter the recovery key to get going again (Keyboard layout: US)\u2019 screen, and there\u2019s a text field to add the recovery key.
