England\u2019s largest schools to be designed and built to Passivhaus standards have been completed in South Gloucestershire, creating new school places for more than 1,300 pupils.<\/p>\n

BAM UK & Ireland has handed over the new \u00a358.3 million Lyde Green Primary and Secondary Schools ahead of their opening to pupils in September.<\/p>\n

By building to the Passivhaus standard, the schools heating needs could be reduced by up to 90%, making them among the most energy-efficient education buildings in England. The new school buildings use highly insulated construction, triple glazing, all-electric heating, solar panels and specialist ventilation to significantly reduce energy demand while maintaining comfortable temperatures and good air quality throughout the year.<\/p>\n

Built by BAM UK & Ireland for South Gloucestershire Council, the 420-place primary school will be run by Castle School Education Trust, while the 900-place secondary school for pupils aged 11 to 16 will be run by Olympus Academy Trust.<\/p>\n

The construction of Lyde Green Primary and Secondary school builds on BAM UK & Ireland\u2019s growing track record delivering Passivhaus education buildings across the UK. In Fife, the Woodmill and St Columba\u2019s High School campus reported a \u00a3433,392 reduction in energy bills in its first year of operation, and BAM UK & Ireland recently completed the \u00a388 million Passivhaus Caledonia High School in Rosyth.<\/p>\n

South Gloucestershire Council Cabinet Member with responsibility for schools, Cllr Ian Boulton, said: \u201cThis is such an exciting moment. Long promised and now delivered, these state-of-the-art schools will serve the Lyde Green community for generations.<\/p>\n
