\n\tKit Harington<\/a> will now play Gilderoy Lockhart in Season 2 of HBO<\/a>\u2018s \u201cHarry Potter<\/a>\u201d series, replacing Nicholas Hoult<\/a>, who exited the production due to scheduling conflicts.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d star recently voiced Lockhart, who is central to the plot of second book \u201cHarry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,\u201d in Audible\u2019s \u201cHarry Potter\u201d audiobooks late last year. Lockhart, a famous yet arrogant wizard known for his many heroic acts, becomes the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts \u2014 and it\u2019s soon made clear that he isn\u2019t qualified for the job. He was portrayed by Kenneth Branagh in the 2002 \u201cChamber of Secrets\u201d film.<\/p>\n

\n\tSpeaking to Variety<\/a> about the audiobooks in December, self-proclaimed \u201cHarry Potter\u201d nerd Harington said he fell in love with J.K. Rowling\u2019s books as a kid and has reread them many times since. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was a really simple yes, because I love the character,\u201d Harington said of agreeing to voice Lockhart in the audiobooks. \u201cAs far as cameos in a series go, you don\u2019t get much more entertaining and fun to do as an actor than Gilderoy Lockhart. It was a no-brainer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSeason 2 of the \u201cHarry Potter\u201d series, which is based on \u201cChamber of Secrets,\u201d is set to start shooting this fall. The first season will premiere on HBO and HBO Max Christmas Day. <\/p>\n

\n\tDominic McLaughlin is set to play the title role in the show, with Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout playing Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. Additional cast members include John Lithgow as Hogwarts headmaster Dumbledore while Janet McTeer is Professor McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu plays Snape and Nick Frost has been cast as Rubeus Hagrid.<\/p>\n

\n\tJon Brown, a writer on the first season of the adaptation, has been promoted to serve as co-showrunner on Season 2. He joins current showrunner and series developer Francesca Gardiner. Gardiner serves as executive producer alongside director Mark Mylod. \u201cHarry Potter\u201d author Rowling also executive produces along with Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Bront\u00eb Film and TV and David Heyman of Heyday Films. Warner Bros.
