But in the second year of his second term, doctors have warned that Trump\u2019s weight gain needs to take priority, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2026\/08\/23\/doctors-say-trump-weight-poses-significant-health-risk\/\">The Washington Post reports.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The 80-year-old president weighed approximately 238 pounds at his <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefings-statements\/2026\/05\/memorandum-from-the-white-house-physician-9440\/\">physical exam<\/a> in May \u2013 14 pounds more <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefings-statements\/2025\/04\/memorandum-from-the-white-house-physician\/\">than last year<\/a> and 23 pounds more than the 215 pounds he was listed at in <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/donald-trump-weight-booking-georgia-b2399266.html\">2023, documented when he was arrested in Georgia, the newspaper noted.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that obesity is a strong risk factor for numerous health issues \u2014 as well as premature disability and death,\u201d Dr. Scott Kahan, the director of the National Center for Weight and Wellness, told the Post. \u201cAddressing obesity to protect the president\u2019s health should be a priority similar to ensuring Secret Service protections for his life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/trump-snack-regime-change-book-b3004037.html\">who has also been reported to indulge in late-night snacking<\/a>, has been recommended by his White House physicians to make better dietary choices and increase his exercise to lose weight. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2290770448...jpeg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Doctors have warned that President Donald Trump\u2019s weight poses \u2018a strong risk factor\u2019 for his health after the commander-in-chief has gained 23 pounds since 2023\" class=\"sc-1mc30lb-0 ggpMaE inline-gallery-btn\"\/>Doctors have warned that President Donald Trump\u2019s weight poses \u2018a strong risk factor\u2019 for his health after the commander-in-chief has gained 23 pounds since 2023 (Getty)<\/p>\n<p>Other medical experts have expressed similar sentiments about the president\u2019s weight gain. <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Stuart Fischer, a former emergency room doctor and current internist, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.com\/health\/article-15865475\/trump-health-exam-doctor-weight.html\">told the Daily Mail <\/a>in June that \u201cSomeone has got to really quietly sit down and talk with him, and say, \u2018You&#8217;re playing with fire.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that his doctors haven&#8217;t gotten through to him about weight, to me, is kind of interesting,\u201d Fischer told the outlet. \u201cIt should be concerning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump and the White House have brushed off concerns about the aging president\u2019s mental and physical acuity, often comparing his energy levels to that of his predecessor, whom Trump nicknamed \u201cSleepy Joe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2178820822...jpeg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Trump is a known lover of fast food, such as McDonald\u2019s, and he\u2019s been reported to indulge in late-night snacking and eating highly processed foods\" class=\"sc-1mc30lb-0 ggpMaE inline-gallery-btn\"\/>Trump is a known lover of fast food, such as McDonald\u2019s, and he\u2019s been reported to indulge in late-night snacking and eating highly processed foods (Getty)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump\u2019s sharpness, unmatched energy, relentless work ethic and historic accessibility stand in stark contrast to what we saw during the last administration when Democrats and the legacy media intentionally covered up Joe Biden\u2019s serious mental and physical decline from the American people,\u201d White House spokesman Davis Ingle told the Post. \u201cPresident Trump is the sharpest and most accessible President in American history who is working nonstop to solve problems and deliver on his promises.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Independent has asked the White House for comment. <\/p>\n<p>But other officials have expressed similar concerns about Trump\u2019s weight.<\/p>\n<p>Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vm6OspRNnd4\">told podcaster Katie Miller earlier this year <\/a>that Trump\u2019s dietary habits were unhinged.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe interesting thing about the president is that he eats really bad food, which is McDonald\u2019s, and, you then know, candy and Diet Coke. He drinks Diet Coke at all times. He has the constitution of a deity.
