Jon Rahm was on the verge of a stunning comeback win at the 2025 PGA Championship<\/strong>, but Scottie Scheffler was just too good.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After a brilliant run on Sunday, Rahm faltered and failed to overhaul Scheffler and his emotions were on display for everyone to see<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Rahm collapsed over his final three holes, meaning Scheffler coasted to the third major of the career.<\/a><\/p>\n

Veteran announcer Jim Nantz appeared to take a shot at Rahm just as his final round was falling apart.<\/p>\n

“He served as roadkill for the Green Mile,” Nantz said, according to The Athletic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After such a devastating end, the Spaniard was consoled by his wife.<\/p>\n

Footage showed Rahm walking over to his partner before sinking his head into her shoulder and are sharing a hug.<\/p>\n

The video quickly went viral on social media as fans expressed sympathy with the 30-year-old.<\/p>\n

“He has nothing to hang his head about! Masters and US Open champion! Keep grinding!” one fan commented on Instagram.<\/p>\n

“I’ve never seen a pro blow up so badly before. Hope he shakes it off,” another fan wrote.<\/p>\n

“Oh my goodness this is so sad, so tough watching,” one fan posted.<\/p>\n

Rahm said afterwards that his late demise was a ‘tough pill to swallow’, as he analysed where it went wrong.<\/p>\n

“It was really close,” the former US Open and Masters champion said.<\/p>\n

“God, it’s been a while since I had that much fun on a golf course, [the first] 15 holes.<\/p>\n

“Even the first seven where I was swinging well and things weren’t happening, but I kept myself in and made the pars that I needed and played really good golf from the eighth to the 15th.<\/p>\n

“The last three holes, it’s a tough pill to swallow right now. Especially knowing 16 is not the narrowest fairway in the world. Not a terrible swing, but bad enough to put me in a real difficult situation.”<\/p>\n

Rahm made a bogey on the 16th hole before sending his tee shot into water on the par-three 17th on his way to a double-bogey five. <\/p>\n

He then had two more dropped shots on the last hole as his hopes of another major unravelled.<\/p>\n

“The mistake I did on 16 was the same mistake on 18, just different clubs. It wasn’t that bad of a swing, not that far off. The result is horrendous, but feeling-wise it’s not that far off,” Rahm said.<\/p>\n

“A lot of positives to take from this week. Pretty fresh wound right now. But there’s been a lot of good happening this week and a lot of positive feelings to take for the rest of the year.<\/p>\n

“I think it’s the first time I’ve been in position to win a major that close and haven’t done it.”<\/p>\n

Rahm had not been a realistic contender for any of the five majors since leaving the PGA Tour<\/a> in December 2023, but this Quail Hollow display demonstrated his quality.<\/p>\n

“Am I embarrassed a little bit about how I finished today? Yeah. But I just need to get over it, get over myself. It’s not the end of the world,” he added.<\/p>\n

“It’s not like I’m a doctor or a first responder, where somebody if they have a bad day, truly bad things happen.”<\/p>\n

Rahm was looking to become the first Spaniard to win the PGA Championship<\/a>, and after a solid start, there was every bit a chance he would have made that bit of history.<\/p>\n

After his first seven pars, he exploded into life with birdies on the eighth, 10th and 11th holes to tie the lead.<\/p>\n

Although after Scheffler pulled clear again, he missed chances to take the lead down the back nine and then by this point, the dramatic collapse would begin.<\/p>\n

“I’ll get over it. I’ll move on,” Rahm said. <\/p>\n

“Again, there’s a lot more positive than negative to think about this week.
