{"id":1170,"date":"2025-04-02T04:22:15","date_gmt":"2025-04-02T04:22:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1170\/"},"modified":"2025-04-02T04:22:15","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T04:22:15","slug":"eddie-howe-names-the-biggest-shock-to-come-out-of-the-newcastle-united-celebrations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1170\/","title":{"rendered":"Eddie Howe names the biggest &#8216;shock&#8217; to come out of the Newcastle United celebrations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Eddie Howe has commented on Newcastle United\u2019s Carabao Cup trophy celebrations on Saturday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Toon fans took to the streets of the city centre to get a glimpse of the team that finally brought a trophy back to Tyneside after decades of heartbreak.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/news\/eddie-howe-admits-one-newcastle-united-player-really-shocked-him-in-carabao-cup-final-win\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newcastle United won the Carabao Cup<\/a> in March, ending an agonising wait for silverware which lasted several decades. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/news\/alan-pardew-pays-ultimate-compliment-to-eddie-howe-after-newcastle-united-win-carabao-cup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alan Pardew branded Eddie Howe as \u2018immortal<\/a>\u2018 after the win against Liverpool at Wembley Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>The Town Moor event saw <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/news\/the-staggering-number-of-newcastle-united-fans-expected-for-carabao-cup-celebrations-as-new-prediction-made\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">over 250,000 Newcastle fans see the trophy<\/a>, hear from club legends like Alan Shearer and Les Ferdinand and hear some questionable singing from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/tag\/bruno-guimaraes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bruno Guimaraes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The focus is back to the Premier League now, with the Magpies taking on Brentford at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/tag\/st-james-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">St James\u2019 Park<\/a> on Wednesday night, with the aim now being on finishing the season on a high and qualifying for the Champions League.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, Howe had to comment on something he did not see coming during Saturday\u2019s trophy celebrations.<\/p>\n<p>Eddie Howe on Newcastle United\u2019s flag gesture<\/p>\n<p>Howe is loved by fans on Tyneside. The trophy win has etched him into the history books and solidified his legendary status at the club.<\/p>\n<p>There were calls for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/news\/paul-scholes-is-asked-about-a-statue-for-eddie-howe-after-newcastles-cup-final-win-his-answer-is-unexpected\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Newcastle to give Howe a statue<\/a> over the win, a move which pundits outside of football were relatively shocked at.<\/p>\n<p>Howe took his first press conference since the Carabao Cup win on Tuesday morning after two weeks away for the international break. During his presser, Howe was asked about the gargantuan flag, created by fan group Wor Flags, which was draped over a building beside St James\u2019 Park.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was totally unexpected,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t know it was there and didn\u2019t know it was coming. You\u2019re in a little bit of shock in that moment because it\u2019s never about one individual, it\u2019s never about me, it\u2019s always about the team, but there was a lot of thanks from me to the people that thought of that. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo have that connection with the city and the supporters, to acknowledge that they know that I\u2019m trying for them and giving my best in the job \u2013 that\u2019s a great thing to have.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Eddie Howe on seeing his flag on Saturday:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was totally unexpected. The Swiss international has played the majority of the Magpies\u2019 games in all competitions and was a big part of the Carabao Cup win alongside local hero <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geordiebootboys.com\/tag\/dan-burn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dan Burn<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Schar is one of several Newcastle players whose contracts will run out at the end of the season, but Howe is keen to keep the 33-year-old around for another year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Fabby will hopefully be signing his contract imminently, if he hasn\u2019t already, to my knowledge,\u201d said the Toon boss in Tuesday\u2019s press conference.<\/p>\n<p>Schar has not only been a rock at the back, but has also been amongst the goals, scoring four times in all competitions.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>  <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Eddie Howe has commented on Newcastle United\u2019s Carabao Cup trophy celebrations on Saturday.
