When Everton signed Jake O\u2019Brien in a \u00a317m deal from Lyon, it was met with great fanfare. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Jake O\u2019Brien<\/a> was brought in to seemingly replace James Tarkowski and partner Jarrad Branthwaite, however, Sean Dyche<\/a> barely gave him a kick. <\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t until David Moyes<\/a> came in January that O\u2019Brien started a Premier League game, and he\u2019s not looked back since. <\/p>\n

Even Kevin De Bruyne has praised O\u2019Brien in recent months<\/a>, with the towering defender impressing in a new position at right-back. <\/p>\n

Now, the Republic of Ireland international has just come out and admitted that he still finds one instruction Moyes gives him really \u2018weird\u2019.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Brien appeared on Still Ryan\u2019s YouTube channel and discussed at length how he\u2019s found his first year at Everton.<\/p>\n

The interviewer asked about his new role at right-back and what he makes of it, and the 23-year-old admitted he finds it \u2018weird\u2019 overlapping but enjoys it. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s different, I mean when he asked me to do it, I kind of just\u2026obviously I wouldn\u2019t say no like\u2026 but it was different and I knew I\u2019d kind of like drop into a three at the back,\u201d O\u2019Brien explained. <\/p>\n

\u201cBut then I think in the first week that didn\u2019t really happen as much, I was kinda of, as you said, bombing up the wing and it was weird for me.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m 6ft 6 running up doing overlaps and stuff. I remember the first time I was running, doing an overlap and in my head I\u2019m like, \u2018what am I doing\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Brien added: \u201cBut no I enjoy it, I get to go higher up the pitch and attack more, show my pace.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

O\u2019Brien expected to move back to central defence next season<\/p>\n

It\u2019s understood O\u2019Brien\u2019s future at Everton very much remains at centre-back<\/a>, with a right full-back set to join this summer transfer window. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe club will look at both full-back positions this summer, but I\u2019m not sure it impacts (Jake) O\u2019Brien that much,\u201d Patrick Boyland explained via\u00a0The Athletic<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cMoyes has said O\u2019Brien\u2019s medium and long-term future is in the centre of defence, the position he has played in throughout his career.\u201d<\/p>\n

Everton are looking at Brighton\u2019s Tariq Lamptey<\/a>, who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season. <\/p>\n
