<\/p>\nLONDON, Aug 27 \u2014 Prince Harry, his wife Meghan and their two children landed yesterday in Britain, UK media reported, after the shock news emerged last week they would be relocating from the US.<\/p>\n
The couple, who quit Britain for California six years ago amid a royal feud, landed aboard a private jet at Birmingham Airport in central England, The Telegraph newspaper and other media said.<\/p>\n
Their spokesman declined to confirm the arrival, telling the BBC \u201cthis is not something we would comment on\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Telegraph reported that the couple plan to stay for \u201can extended period\u201d, living in a home in the Cotswolds region, in central England, having enrolled their children at a school for the coming academic year.<\/p>\n
With speculation rampant around their reasons for returning and whether the stay is permanent, reports have noted the couple intend to keep their existing homes in California and Portugal.<\/p>\n
Their two children Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, have already been signed up to start at a private school in early September, according to UK media outlets.<\/p>\n
The school is \u201cin or close to\u201d the Cotswolds, according to the Daily Mail.<\/p>\n

Reconciliation?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Harry, 41, and Meghan, 45, who hold the titles of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, swapped Britain for the US amid a bitter falling-out with his family, which only worsened as Harry published his tell-all memoir \u201cSpare\u201d.<\/p>\n A no-holds-barred interview with US talk show host Oprah Winfrey also deepened the rift.<\/p>\n The prince appeared to have mended relations with his father, King Charles III, who is battling cancer, during more recent UK visits. But Harry reportedly remains estranged from his brother, heir-to-the-throne Prince William and wife Catherine.<\/p>\n Harry and Meghan met the king in July, during a brief UK visit \u2014 the first time in four years the couple\u2019s children had met their grandfather.<\/p>\n But they did not meet William and Kate, and whether the feuding siblings will reconcile has been among the many questions thrown up by their return.<\/p>\n \u201cI think at the moment there\u2019s going to be this sort of Mexican standoff and they\u2019re going to ignore each other,\u201d royal expert and historian Andrew Lownie told AFP.<\/p>\n \u201c But there\u2019s going to be a point where they have to kind of run into each other.\u201d<\/p>\n Talk of possible reconciliation could be undercut by reports that William might remove their Sussex titles when he eventually becomes monarch.<\/p>\n Harry\u2019s grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, stripped them of their \u201cRoyal Highness\u201d titles, police protection and public funding when they quit as working members of the monarchy in 2020.<\/p>\n Some among the British public sympathised with Harry.<\/p>\n \u201cIt would be quite nice to see them reunite,\u201d 21-year-old emergency worker Charlie Fisher told AFP in London.<\/p>\n Bar worker Abby, 20, said she felt Harry had been treated unfairly. \u201cI don\u2019t know if it\u2019s a way back in for him… but I think it\u2019s good that he\u2019s coming home.\u201d<\/p>\n Security?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Other questions remain unanswered, including whether they will receive publicly funded security.<\/p>\n Harry has said he did not feel safe bringing his family to Britain after losing a court battle over the provision of government-funded police protection in the UK while he lived overseas.<\/p>\n The couple will not be returning as working royals, prompting unease within the monarchy about what they will do after signing a string of commercial deals while in the US with platforms like Netflix and Spotify, according to reports.<\/p>\n \u201cThe palace will want to ensure that these do not overshadow the more typical work of the king and other members of the royal family,\u201d constitutional academic Craig Prescott, of Royal Holloway, University of London, told AFP.<\/p>\n According to Lownie, Harry has \u201cblurred the distinction between working royals and faux-royal\u201d work, which could be \u201cconfusing\u201d for the public.<\/p>\n Meghan faces a particularly tough challenge in re-assimilating to life in Britain, where she remains unpopular.
