lack of response to Irish Language Strategy &#x2018;irrational&#x2019; and &#x2018;unlawful&#x2019;\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/LTBFVFCEEZCB5GCV7CGG4KL6AQ.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/><\/a>How to protect children from asthmas attacks<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Official advice from the charity is to make sure children use their steroid preventer daily as prescribed to prevent airways becoming inflamed.<\/li>\n<li>Check they have their reliever inhaler and spacer in their school bag so it is quickly available.<\/li>\n<li>Arrange for an annual asthma review with GP or asthma nurse to detect early symptoms and ensure inhalers are being used correctly.<\/li>\n<li>Request an extra reliever inhaler to give to school for emergencies.<\/li>\n<li>Share an up to date <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asthmaandlung.org.uk\/conditions\/asthma\/manage\/your-asthma-action-plan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" title=\"https:\/\/www.asthmaandlung.org.uk\/conditions\/asthma\/manage\/your-asthma-action-plan\">asthma action plan<\/a>\u202fwith the child\u2019s school to make sure they are aware of triggers, symptoms and how to manage sudden flare ups.<\/li>\n<li>If a child having an asthma attack does not improve with a reliever inhaler\u202for using their asthma action plan, call 999 and follow the charity\u2019s online\u202f<a href=\"http:\/\/www.asthmaandlung.org.uk\/conditions\/asthma\/child\/asthma-attacks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" title=\"http:\/\/www.asthmaandlung.org.uk\/conditions\/asthma\/child\/asthma-attacks\">asthma attack advice for children<\/a>\u202f.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">One mother from Derry, Haley, spoke of how she protects her three children Ruben, Mila and Leighton as they head back to class.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIt is always a worrying time when the children go back to school in September, because of circulating viruses and dust,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/RLK5A2HVNBMD7G3QBXTNXDE2EU.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"533\"\/>(Alamy Stock Photo) <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cLuckily, because my son Ruben goes to a special needs school as he is autistic and nonverbal, the classes are very small, so it\u2019s not so much of a worry with him and his asthma. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cMila, on the other hand, has many allergies and triggers including dust and always picks up bugs especially at the beginning of the autumn term. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe try to avoid the dust and the school is great, she doesn\u2019t sit on the carpet, but on a chair and if there are lots of bugs going around, she can do her work in a breakout room.
