{"id":1171976,"date":"2026-08-27T08:53:18","date_gmt":"2026-08-27T08:53:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1171976\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T08:53:18","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T08:53:18","slug":"chopova-lowena-doubles-down-on-experience-fan-service-with-new-store","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1171976\/","title":{"rendered":"Chopova Lowena Doubles Down on Experience, Fan Service with New Store"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/tag\/london\/\" id=\"auto-tag_london\" data-tag=\"london\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">LONDON<\/a> \u2013 <\/strong>For years, Chopova Lowena\u2019s old studio in Deptford by the River Thames has functioned as an unofficial shrine for fans worldwide who would plan a trip to see Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena\u2019s world up close: studio tours, try-ons, and perhaps a purchase a one-off skirt or a piece they\u2019d spotted seasons ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tNow, the duo is formalizing that pilgrimage with their first permanent store in East London at 84 Teesdale Street between Bethnal Green and Hoxton, just off Hackney Road, in a building that the designers now call home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe duo believes it\u2019s an ideal spot as it\u2019s right between Columbia Road Flower Market and Broadway Market, and is close to fellow trendy retailers like Story mfg, Twos and Waste Store. They hope it will become a new weeking stop for those who embark on \u201can interesting walking route in East <a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/footwear-news\/shoe-trends\/maisie-williams-practical-magic-2-lili-curia-boots-london-1239164124\/\" id=\"related_article_link_london\" data-tag=\"london\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">London<\/a> of small brands having physical spaces.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe shop occupies the ground floor, while their studios stretch both above and below, turning the address into a vertical headquarters for everything from design and fittings to late-night hangouts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/tag\/retail-2\/\" id=\"auto-tag_retail-2\" data-tag=\"retail-2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Retail<\/a> is moving to more in-person shopping, especially in a bad economy. When people are going to spend their money, they want an experience, so we want to provide an experience. The whole store is a clubhouse, a community for everyone to come in and hang out, an all-welcome club,\u201d said Lowena.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe club has been months in the making, starting work in May and, true to the brand\u2019s DIY ethic, building the space themselves with the help of designer and fabricator\u00a0David Pringle, Chopova\u2019s partner, who constructed everything from built-in wardrobes made from specially sourced Polish pine, a 200-kilogram wrought-iron display table, and a folkloric cabinet bed that doubles as the till.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe result is a fully immersive set, very much in line with <a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/fashion-news\/designer-luxury\/chopova-lowena-london-fashion-week-debut-1235330827\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a label that has always preferred doing things \u201cin a bit of an outsider way\u201d<\/a> since the two graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2017 with\u00a0a joint master\u2019s degree in fashion design.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tInside, the store extends the brand\u2019s folkloric, slightly feral universe in three dimensions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe inspirations run from village wardrobes to children\u2019s secret forts with peepholes, hidden doors, a secret mailbox for notes and drawings, and TV screens where girls appear to be trying to escape.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA string dispenser in the shape of a girl on the wall lets visitors wind red string bracelets, a Bulgarian good-luck tradition, with boxes of charms to customize their talismans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAnchoring the space is a\u00a0skirt bar, where customers can build their own version of the brand\u2019s signature pleated kilt with their choice of buckles, charms, beads, and carefully sourced fabrics for mix-and-match experimentation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tLead times will range from a couple of weeks to a few months depending on materials, but in return clients receive something closer to couture than ready-to-wear, shipped to their door, finished with a plaque bearing their name and a certificate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAlongside the made-to-order kilts and one-off pieces will be the Clubhouse collection, an exclusive range of\u00a0lower price-point merch: T-shirts, hats and forthcoming soaps, plus collaborative T-shirts and small accessories under 50 pounds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI grew up in New Jersey and went to New York all the time, and the early-2000s Marc by Marc Jacobs in Soho was so important. It\u2019s where you could buy a pen, flip-flops, or a printed T-shirt and then go next door for a $700 bag. That high-low mix and the idea that everyone could get a piece of it was really inspiring. We want to do that as well,\u201d said Chopova.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe store will open to customers on Friday, and trade four days a week,\u00a0Thursday through Sunday. The whole company will collectively look after the shop with the help of two part-time sales associates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tStrategically speaking, the store allows the brand to sell direct at wholesale-level prices without margin dilution, and experiment with pieces that never quite fit a wholesale model: tiny runs, reclaimed 10-meter bolts of special fabrics, hyper-specific collaborations. The brand currently sells to more than 50 retailers globally, including Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom, Maxfield, Dover Street Market, LN-CC, and 10 Corso Como.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFor the duo, expanding into permanent <a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/sourcing-journal\/industry-news\/faire-small-town-retail-is-redefining-shopping-in-america-1239164075\/\" id=\"related_article_link_retail-2\" data-tag=\"retail-2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">retail<\/a> isn\u2019t a step toward the mainstream but a way of\u00a0staying niche on their own terms. They were adamant this isn\u2019t the first step toward a polished Mayfair flagship or a high-street rollout.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe don\u2019t really have that ambition. We don\u2019t want to be mainstream.
