Well, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\/news\/its-official-london-is-one-of-the-worlds-top-five-most-expensive-cities-041525\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">you\u2019d be correct<\/a>. But\u00a0a new report has revealed that there\u2019s\u00a0one UK city that actually ranks above the capital as\u00a0one of the most costly places on the continent for a city break.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.postoffice.co.uk\/dam6\/jcr:97b50114-ee4d-46e6-ae16-4bcd98304004\/City%20Costs%20Barometer%202025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">City Costs Barometer 2025<\/a>, Post Office Travel Money did some number crunching and revealed that the combined cost of\u00a0different tourist expenses in <strong>Edinburgh<\/strong> is higher than\u00a0any other city in western <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/europe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Europe<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>RECOMMENDED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/europe\/things-to-do\/best-cheapest-cities-to-visit-in-europe-on-a-budget\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The 14 cheapest cities to visit in Europe on a budget in 2025<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The most costly part of staying in\u00a0the Scottish capital\u00a0is the accommodation. According to data from Hotels.com, the average price for\u00a0two\u00a0nights in one of the city centre\u2019s three-star hotels is \u00a3399. That\u2019s for\u00a0the ten cheapest en-suite rooms available between June 6 and 8.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Edinburgh\u2019s 48-hour public transport pass is also more expensive than most other European cities at \u00a322, it\u2019s \u2018top tourist heritage attraction\u2019 Edinburgh Castle costs \u00a319.50 to enter and a simple filter coffee will set you back \u00a33.50. Add the average price of a glass of wine, a return airport bus, a three course evening meal and a sight-seeing bus tour and in total, a trip to Edinburgh\u00a0amounts to \u00a3601.50.<\/p>\n<p>The report also highlighted that costs tend to escalate during peak season, such as when the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/edinburgh\/theatre\/best-edinburgh-festival-fringe-theatre-shows\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Edinburgh Fringe<\/a> is on, and with the city\u2019s\u00a0incoming tourist tax, it could be set to get even more spenny.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Across Europe as a whole, Edinburgh emerged as the third most expensive to visit, trumped only by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/copenhagen\/things-to-do\/best-things-to-do-in-copenhagen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Copenhagen<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/oslo\/things-to-do\/best-things-to-do-in-oslo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oslo<\/a>. London placed 26th with a total cost of \u00a3525.40.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>You can\u00a0definitely do Edinburgh on a budget, though.
