That\u2019s all I could think of while reading today\u2019s headlines praising the so-called \u201creset\u201d deal between the UK and the EU.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I know the tricks of the EU\u2019s trade \u2013 and \u201ctricks\u201d is the key word here<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>We\u2019re being told this deal represents a new direction for Britain and its neighbour, a \u201cnew era\u201d. It\u2019s nothing of the sort. If anything, this \u201cdeal\u201d is more of a repeat than a reset, a continuation of a long story of sellouts.<\/p>\n<p>I can claim some experience here. Having served as the UK\u2019s deputy chief negotiator in the trade talks with the EU in 2020, I spent hundreds of hours sitting opposite the EU\u2019s negotiating team.
