{"id":1173607,"date":"2026-08-28T05:15:27","date_gmt":"2026-08-28T05:15:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1173607\/"},"modified":"2026-08-28T05:15:27","modified_gmt":"2026-08-28T05:15:27","slug":"two-major-tokyo-museums-are-closing-for-renovations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1173607\/","title":{"rendered":"Two major Tokyo museums are closing for renovations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following the reopening of the recently revamped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/tokyo\/news\/the-edo-tokyo-museum-is-reopening-march-31-heres-whats-inside-now-032726\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Edo-Tokyo Museum<\/a> earlier this year, two more prominent Tokyo museums are set to close temporarily for renovation and refurbishment works.<\/p>\n<p>First up is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/tokyo\/museums\/miraikan-the-national-museum-of-emerging-science-innovation\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Miraikan \u2013 The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation<\/a>, which has announced a six-month <a href=\"https:\/\/www.miraikan.jst.go.jp\/en\/news\/general\/202603244472.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">closure<\/a> from <strong>October 1 2026 through April 22 2027<\/strong>. The entire museum will shut during this period for extensive renovations and facility improvements, with the revamp also bringing new exhibits and service upgrades, including a permanent exhibit exploring genomes and the brain.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the museum\u2019s dome theatre will receive an update, allowing it to showcase new 3D video productions and films designed to make the most of its unique dome-shaped screen. The Miraikan\u2019s restaurant and caf\u00e9 will also be refreshed with new concepts, as will the museum shop.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"6e531e00-c3c5-13ed-57b7-dcc71578bba5\" class=\"photo lazy inline\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"lazy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787894127_618_image.webp\" alt=\"Mori Art Museum\" data-caption=\"Mori Art Museum\" data-credit=\"Photo: Mori Art Museum, Tokyo\" data-width-class=\"\" data-image-id=\"105502599\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\nPhoto: Mori Art Museum, TokyoMori Art Museum&#13;<\/p>\n<p>The second museum set to undergo renovations is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/tokyo\/art\/mori-art-museum\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mori Art Museum<\/a>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mori.art.museum\/en\/news\/2026\/08\/9007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">temporary closure<\/a> is still a little way off, with the Roppongi museum set to close from <strong>September 24 2027 until late April 2028<\/strong>. However, the facility has announced the news well in advance, along with its upcoming exhibition schedule leading up to the closure.<\/p>\n<p>The final exhibition to be held at the museum before its closure will be \u2018New Rules of Play: Art, Children, and Society\u2019, featuring participatory works that invite visitors to touch, create and engage with immersive art installations.
