The findings add to a growing body of evidence on the impact of HPV vaccination programmes and what they could mean for efforts to eliminate cervical cancer in England and beyond.

As HPV-vaccinated cohorts move through the NHS Cervical Screening Programme, important questions are emerging about the future of screening. How is cervical cancer risk changing? What role will innovations such as HPV self-sampling play? How might cervical screening evolve in a vaccinated population while continuing to protect those most at risk?

This seminar will explore the findings of Prof Sasieni’s research alongside wider developments in cervical screening, vaccination and cancer prevention. Speakers will discuss the current cervical screening programme, delivery of HPV vaccination, emerging evidence on cervical cancer risk, and what the future may hold for cervical screening policy and practice.

The seminar will be hosted by Professor Anne Mackie and will feature presentations from:

Professor Peter Sasieni, Professor of Cancer Epidemiology, Queen Mary University of London

Philippa Pearmain, Consultant in Public Health and Cervical Screening Senior Clinical Lead, NHS England

Sharif Ismail, Consultant Epidemiologist, UK Health Security Agency

Carolina Guerra Martinelli, Targeted Screening Lead, UK NSC/DHSC

Attendees will also have the opportunity to take part in a question-and-answer session with the speakers.

The seminar is likely to be of particular interest to screening professionals and programme leads, public health specialists, clinicians and healthcare practitioners, researchers and academics, patient and public representatives, charities and voluntary organisations.

About our seminars

The UK NSC regularly hosts seminars to encourage discussion of important developments in screening policy and practice.
