Manchester United<\/a> have launched a move to sign Ian Maatsen from Aston Villa, as Michael Carrick\u2019s side step up their pursuit of a left-back, according to a journalist.<\/p>\n

Man Utd<\/a><\/strong> are keen on signing a new left-back before the summer transfer window closes next week.<\/p>\n

Newcastle United star Lewis Hall has long been Man Utd\u2019s top choice<\/a><\/strong> for the left-back spot.<\/p>\n

Hall himself is keen on a move to Man Utd, but Newcastle are adamant that they will not sell the England international this summer.<\/p>\n

Man Utd have an interest in Myles Lewis-Skelly, too, with the Arsenal star able to play in midfield as well as at left-back, just like Hall.<\/p>\n

However, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants to keep Lewis-Skelly<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Man Utd make move for Aston Villa left-back Ian Maatsen<\/strong><\/p>\n

With just days remaining in the summer transfer window, Man Utd have now launched a move to sign Maatsen<\/a><\/strong> from Villa, according to transfer journalist Pete O\u2019Rourke, who has over 173,000 followers on X.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Rourke wrote on X<\/a> at 10:03am on August 29: \u201cManchester United have made an enquiry for Aston Villa<\/a><\/strong> defender Ian Maatsen as they search to bring in a new left-back. #MUFC #AVFC\u201d<\/p>\n

Maatsen has been on the books of Villa since the summer of 2024, when he joined from Chelsea.<\/p>\n

The Villans paid \u00a337.5million for Maatsen to the Blues at the time.<\/p>\n

Maatsen has done well for Villa since then and won the Europa League with Unai Emery\u2019s side last season.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old Netherlands international is under contract at Villa until the summer of 2030.<\/p>\n

Maatsen has scored three goals and given four assists in 91 matches in all competitions for Villa so far in his career.<\/p>\n

Man Utd\u2019s enquiry for Maatsen follows claims from Fabrizio Romano that the Red Devils\u2019 co-owners, INEOS, are looking for a cheaper option at left-back.<\/p>\n

The transfer guru said on his YouTube channel<\/a>: \u201cManchester United, I think, could be busy in these final four or five days of the window.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can guarantee you that Manchester United are still looking for a solution at left-back.<\/p>\n

\u201cUtd are working to add a new left-back.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would not be surprised if they end up with a solution in a player who can be almost a guarantee \u2013 maybe not a superstar name like Balde, because they considered Alejandro Balde.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey had a call with Jorge Mendes one week ago, but the deal is too expensive: transfer fee and salary too expensive.<\/p>\n

\u201cUtd are not going to do that, at least not now.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust as a comparison, remember when Utd signed Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham on loan \u2013 something similar.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, I\u2019m not saying it\u2019s that exact profile again, but that kind of player: an experienced left-back who can provide competition and who also has an international profile.<\/p>\n

\u201cManchester United are exploring this kind of option.<\/p>\n

\u201cLeft-back is expected to be an area Utd want to improve before the deadline.<\/p>\n

\u201cI expect them to sign there.\u201d<\/p>\n
