The title launched in 2017 and many fans had hoped that we\u2019d get a sequel. Sonic Mania was definitely a success for SEGA, but the company has not pursued a follow-up.<\/p>\n<p>Right now there\u2019s no word on a sequel happening in the immediate future. That said, Iizuka said in an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/gameinformer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Game Informer<\/a> this month that SEGA still has a great relationship with the Sonic Mania developers and \u201cthere\u2019s definitely a desire to want to work with them again\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Iizuka said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re still really close with them. We\u2019ve gone out eating and drinking with them because relationships are important to us. They also have a lot of projects that they\u2019re working on for what they want to do and what their business needs are. We don\u2019t have anything to talk about now, but there\u2019s definitely a desire to want to work with them again, and we think they could make a great game. It\u2019s not off the books yet, but it\u2019s not something that\u2019s moving forward currently.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Sonic Mania director Christian Whitehead actually shared images from a sequel prototype last year.
