Ever. \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Trump\u2019s social media posts have sounded hopeful at times that he would be able to broker a deal \u2014 one likely to favor Russia \u2014 but there was a hint of a shift after his latest exchange with his Russian counterpart. <\/p>\n<p>Instead of becoming infuriated with the obdurate Putin \u2014 something Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been hoping would happen \u2014 Trump seems ready to give up and even walked back his persistent boasting that he can bring the war to a resolution.<\/p>\n<p>While Trump last week accepted Putin\u2019s decision not to show up in Turkey and admitted that there\u2019d be no end to the war until the two men could \u201cget together\u201d and sort it out in person, on Monday he suggested that, in fact, a peace deal could only be negotiated between Russia and Ukraine \u201cbecause they know details of a negotiation that nobody else would be aware of,\u201d Trump wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Talking to reporters in the White House, Trump suggested that he could abandon the whole enterprise to broker a peace deal, complaining \u201cthis was a European situation. And it should have remained so. But the previous administration firmly convinced us that we had to get involved.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"606\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/13046617-1024x606.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6637509\"  \/>Vladimir Medinsky served as the Kremlin chief\u2019s arch-patriotic culture minister from 2012 to 2020, and he oversaw the redrafting of a skewed history curriculum to be taught to Russia\u2019s schoolchildren. | Tolga Bozoglu\/EFE via EPA<\/p>\n<p>He said that unless there\u2019s progress \u201cI\u2019m just going to back away,\u201d an ominous, now-persistent threat.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, U.S. Vice President JD Vance struck a similar tone, saying: \u201cWe\u2019re going to try to end it, but if we can\u2019t end it, we\u2019re eventually going to say, \u2018You know what?
