In a statement issued on Thursday, 27 August, Bishop A. Elias Zaidan calls on the international community \u201cto mobilize greater humanitarian assistance support for vulnerable families and communities in Nepal.\u201d<\/p>\n
At the same time, he encourages \u201clong-term efforts to help affected communities rebuild their homes, livelihoods, and critical infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Bishop offers \u201cthe prayers and solidarity\u201d of the Church in the United States to all those affected by the humanitarian emergency. In particular, Bishop Zaidan says the US Bishops\u2019 international relief agency, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), is monitoring the situation and coordinating with local aid agencies, including Caritas Nepal, to determine the best means to help.<\/p>\n
He says the Bishops appreciated the US government\u2019s partnership in supporting the mission of CRS, while expressing gratitude for its attention to the situation and practical support in sending \u201ckey personnel to support response efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bishop Zaidan concludes his message with a prayer that the Immaculate Heart of Mary might \u201cprovide consolation and shelter to all those affected by this disaster\u201d and \u201cinspire the international community to work together, as one family, to address the urgent needs of the Nepalese people.\u201d<\/p>\n
