{"id":1176913,"date":"2026-08-30T08:04:41","date_gmt":"2026-08-30T08:04:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1176913\/"},"modified":"2026-08-30T08:04:41","modified_gmt":"2026-08-30T08:04:41","slug":"rory-mcilroy-suggests-whether-hes-surprised-that-scottie-scheffler-has-won-so-much-since-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1176913\/","title":{"rendered":"Rory McIlroy suggests whether he&#8217;s surprised that Scottie Scheffler has won so much since 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>   <a class=\"fw\" href=\"https:\/\/profile.google.com\/cp\/Cg0vZy8xMWcxajNfc2h3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"28\" height=\"28\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hitc.com\/wp-content\/themes\/grv-media\/img\/google-discover.svg\" alt=\"\"\/> Follow us on Google Discover <\/a>  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Rory McIlroy is the number two ranked golfer in the world behind Scottie Scheffler in first.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The problem for McIlroy is that the difference between him and Scheffler in the world rankings is the same as the gap between the Northern Irishman and 1,176th ranked Thanpisit Omsin.<\/p>\n<p>The 30-year-old American has been the dominant player in the professional game over the past four years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hitc.com\/topic\/scottie-scheffler\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"98399\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Scottie Scheffler<\/a> has 21 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hitc.com\/topic\/pga-tour\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"98401\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PGA Tour<\/a> wins to his name during that period, including four major championships.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/GettyImages-2290507342-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Scottie Scheffler shakes hands with Rory McIlroy after their second round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship 2026 at TPC Southwind\" class=\"wp-image-2606761\" \/>Photo by Stacy Revere\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>He is still some way behind <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hitc.com\/topic\/rory-mcilroy\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"98400\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rory McIlroy<\/a> as far as career achievements go, with the 37-year-old having recorded 30 PGA Tour wins, including six majors.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hitc.com\/rory-mcilroy-names-his-current-pga-tour-player-of-the-year-and-admits-he-shouldnt-be-winning-it\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">McIlroy recently raved about Scheffler\u2019s consistency<\/a>, and backed him to win the Player of the Year award.<\/p>\n<p>Rory McIlroy suggests whether he\u2019s surprised Scottie Scheffler has won so much<\/p>\n<p>McIlroy spoke to Sky Sports after shooting a third-round 63 at the Tour Championship on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>He responded when asked what he has made of Scheffler\u2019s improved putting over the past two seasons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think you\u2019ve got to give Scottie a lot of praise, but you\u2019ve also got to give Phil Kenyon a lot of praise as well,\u201c McIlroy said.<\/p>\n<p>MORE SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER STORIES<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, Scottie started working with Phil a few years ago, I think just before the Ryder Cup in Rome, in 2023.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/GettyImages-2289831653-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Scottie Scheffler of the United States shakes hands with Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland on the 18th hole green during the first round of the FedEx St. Jude\" class=\"wp-image-2605746\" \/>Photo by Ben Jared\/PGA TOUR via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd he\u2019s transformed himself as a putter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike, he\u2019s obviously always been a great ball striker. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s got all the shots, and now to combine that with very solid putting displays, you know, it\u2019s obviously no surprise to see him doing what he\u2019s doing over these last three or four years.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Robert MacIntyre says Scottie Scheffler is \u2018unbelievable\u2019<\/p>\n<p>MacIntyre also spoke highly of Scheffler after his third round at the Tour Championship on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe work rate this guy has, I mean it\u2019s unbelievable,\u201c\u00a0the Scot said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople think it just comes easy to him, but he puts in the graft. He\u2019s up there with the hardest workers in the world of golf.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think a lot of it is a psychological switch.
