\t\t\t\tSheffield United<\/a> are set to sign Hamza Choudhury from Leicester City<\/a> on a permanent basis with a medical set to take place today (Sunday).<\/p>\n

Sheffield United are in the market for cut-price additions to their ranks<\/a> in the closing stages of the transfer window. Loans and free transfers are sought amid ownership issues at SUFC, and it is now claimed that Hamza Choudhury is set for a return to Bramall Lane.<\/p>\n

The Star<\/a> reports that a deal to take Choudhury back to the Blades is in place for \u2018effectively\u2019 a free transfer. The midfielder, who can also cover at right-back, is set to undergo a medical today as his long-standing affiliation with Leicester City<\/a> comes to a close.<\/p>\n

Choudhury spent time on loan<\/a> with United in 2025. He has also had interest from Derby County<\/a>, but it appears he will head back to the Steel City, potentially in time to face Bolton Wanderers<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Why Hamza Choudhury is a smart signing for Sheffield United<\/a><\/p>\n

Choudhury isn\u2019t necessarily a signing that sets the world alight. There are limitations in his game, but in terms of what Sheffield United<\/a> need, he makes for a smart addition to the ranks.<\/p>\n

The need for someone who can play at right-back has grown after an injury to Femi Seriki<\/a>. Matt Doherty<\/a> is on the books but still getting up to fitness and Choudhury will arrive as a plug-and-play option.<\/p>\n

The Bangladesh international knows exactly what to expect from the Championship and is familiar with Chris Wilder\u2019s demands too. He can step into the team right away and won\u2019t require time to settle having spent time in the Steel City and with this squad beforehand.<\/p>\n

Choudhury makes for smart business, but he can not be the only player signed in the final stages of the transfer window at SUFC.<\/p>\n

The Verdict: Sheffield United<\/a> need more before the summer window closes<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no hiding that Sheffield United<\/a> are in a tough position. Their ongoing ownership wrangles restricts the business they can do in the final stages of the transfer window, which is not ideal given the deals they need to strike.<\/p>\n

Ben Brereton Diaz returning made for a coup in the face of rival interest though. Following that up with the Choudhury signing shows the work being done at Bramall Lane.<\/p>\n

More is needed if SUFC are to genuinely progress in the Championship this term though. Centre-back is an area of focus despite the emergence of Jamal Baptiste<\/a> as both Mark McGuinness and Nils Zatterstrom had been lined up for departures.<\/p>\n

It will be hoped a couple more new faces can join while no other notable assets are lost.<\/p>\n
