The White House \u201cborder czar,\u201d Tom Homan, denied on Sunday that the British far-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos was deported<\/a> just a day after being arrested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for political reasons.<\/p>\n

Homan said it was his understanding that Yiannopoulos, 41, had overstayed what he believed to be a visitor visa, had not appeared at an immigration hearing and was issued a final order of removal on 22 July.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe didn\u2019t show up,\u201d Homan told CNN\u2019s State of the Union.<\/a> \u201cThe judge ordered him deported. So, once ICE gets an order of deportation from a federal judge, their job is to execute that order, and that\u2019s what they did.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cHe had his due process, ordered removed by a federal judge, and ICE removed him. It\u2019s that simple.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yiannopoulos\u2019s removal one day after his arrest, when many others who have been deported had first endured lengthy detention center incarcerations, has prompted questions about whether he received preferential treatment in that respect. Homan said the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees ICE, was trying to speed up the deportation process.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce a judge orders them out, rather than being in detention, waiting for travel documents and flight arrangements, we \u2013 ICE, along with the [border patrol] and [DHS] \u2013 [are] working really good on the efficiencies of the removal process,\u201d Homan remarked.<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cAs soon as we get an order removal, our goal is remove them as quick as possible, regardless of who they are. Get them out quick. Open those beds up for more detainees.\u201d<\/p>\n

DHS had quickly publicized Yiannopoulos\u2019s arrest on Thursday at an airport in New Orleans \u2013 where he may have travelled to attend a concert by rapper Ye, formerly Kanye West, on Friday at the city\u2019s Caesars Superdome.<\/p>\n

Officials with DHS touted Yiannopoulos\u2019s arrest on Friday. By Saturday morning, Yiannopoulos\u2019s name was removed from a list of people in ICE detention, and DHS confirmed that he had been deported to the UK on Friday \u2013 one day after his arrest.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation\u2019s laws,\u201d a DHS release said, adding \u201cThe administration is working diligently to ensure that aliens in our country illegally can no longer fly unless it is out of our country to self-deport\u201d.<\/p>\n

CNN host Dana Bash asked Homan if the rightwing influencer Laura Loomer had, as she claimed, tipped off ICE that Yiannopoulos\u2019s permission to be in the US had expired.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of people tipped ICE off,\u201d Homan replied. \u201cThere are a lot of people who\u2019s calling ICE, and she says she\u2019s one of them. She probably was.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut bottom line is, it doesn\u2019t matter. He was ordered removed by an immigration judge, and ICE\u2019s job it to execute that order.\u201d<\/p>\n

Loomer and Yiannopoulos \u2013 who had sanguinely cheered the Trump administration\u2019s deportation efforts before his expulsion from the US \u2013 had publicly fallen out.<\/p>\n
