“We started the game really well,\u201d the defender told Sky. \u201cThe [first Ipswich] goal knocked us back a lot. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you lose at this club, there’s a lot of noise and you feel like you’re in a crisis again. We spoke about it at half-time. We proved we could’ve got more. <\/p>\n

\u201cLast week [losing away to Hull] was disappointing. We prepared all pre-season for the game against Hull. Thankfully, we managed to get the three points. It’s a long season and we’ll be ready for the next one.”<\/p>\n

“We have to do it in both ways, when we lose we can’t get carried away with the negative things,\u201d the Manchester United captain told BBC Sport. <\/p>\n

\u201cI hate losing and it is difficult to be positive when you lose games because at this club you want to be on top of everything and win games. It is very difficult for me to control the emotions.”<\/p>\n

<\/a>‘We’re not getting carried away’<\/p>\n

Michael Carrick was understandably delighted by Bruno Fernandes\u2019 performance – but he thinks there is more to come from his team<\/p>\n

“He showed his quality today. Bruno did what he’s good at. He’s had a big week winning awards. Three goals and a fantastic performance,\u201d Carrick told Sky.<\/p>\n

“There were a lot of positives with and without the ball but it’s the whole mentality dealing with it and trusting each other. Last week didn’t go for us and we accept that. Today was a lot better.<\/p>\n

“We’re not getting carried away. We were down last week but everything wasn’t wrong. We can still get better, we haven’t cracked it. We’ll get ready for the next one.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/a>‘Better side for 58 minutes’ – O’Neil<\/p>\n

\u201cReally unlucky to be 2-1 down, two of most unlucky goals you’ll ever see but then not good enough to get back into it,\u201d the Ipswich head coach told Sky.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe got punished by a very good side. It could have been very different. To beat Man United at Old Trafford you need moments to go in your favour. They didn’t. Proud of players, arguably the better side for 58 minutes but we need to improve that last bit.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/a>Carrick most pleased by mentality<\/p>\n

Some more from the United manager, this time speaking to Sky: “It was a good win. It was a really good win in the end. We played some really good football. The biggest thing today was the mentality of the boys tp overcomes setbacks. We’re going to have them and it depends on how you deal with them. I was really pleased with that. It’s easy to look at the result but the mentality and the stubbornness really pleased me.<\/p>\n

“We controlled the game pretty well for the most part. A lot of our play was looking on the way to how we wanted it to look. The boys took it on really well and we were fabulous.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/a>Carrick ‘delighted’ by performance<\/p>\n

Michael Carrick took plenty of positives from Manchester United\u2019s first win of the season – not least how they dealt with the setback of falling behind.<\/p>\n

“Results are nice to win like that,\u201d he told BBC. \u201cI said after the game last week that we were disappointed and it has hurt all week. We managed it well and didn’t make too much of it in the end. We shouldn’t be going down 1-0 at home. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe’re going to have setbacks along the way, but it’s how you deal with them. The quality comes and we have a good day because we score goals and win well.<\/p>\n

“They had a couple of moments and we got back to it and took control. The second half was particularly good. Delighted, a lot of positives.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/a>Shaw ‘out of words’ to describe Fernandes<\/p>\n

Luke Shaw is so used to praising Bruno Fernandes that he is no longer able to fashion fresh replies when asked about the captain\u2019s performances.<\/p>\n

But Manchester United\u2019s left back had plenty to say about Kobbie Mainoo, who started in midfield.<\/p>\n

“I kind of run out of words to speak about Bruno to be honest, he is such a good player,\u201d Shaw told BBC Radio. <\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to speak about Kobbie [Mainoo]. I think today he was world class, so so good, the way he controlled the game and the way he drove us forward, I know Bruno scored the hat-trick but I would put Mainoo down for man of the match. He is so young and it is such a joy to see him growing. For me he was phenomenal today. A real leader in that middle.”<\/p>\n

<\/a>O’Neil takes misfortune for second goal in stride<\/p>\n

Gary O\u2019Neil refuses to moan about the second goal, describing it as \u201cunlucky\u201d but not a reason to moan about officiating. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s a complicated rule…it’s tough to ref,\u201d he tells Sky. \u201cIf his shot was more accurate would it still have been allowed? Difficult rule to ref but I’m not here to moan about refs.\u201d<\/p>\n
