prediction, team news, lineups"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Birmingham will be looking to continue their unbeaten start to the new Championship campaign when they welcome <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsmole.co.uk\/football\/southampton\/\" title=\"Southampton\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Southampton<\/a> to St Andrew\u2019s on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n<p>The hosts currently sit eighth in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsmole.co.uk\/football\/championship\/table.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">league table<\/a>, while the visitors are 18th.<\/p>\n<p>Match preview<\/p>\n<p>Birmingham head into Tuesday\u2019s clash having picked up two draws and one win in their opening three Championship matches.<\/p>\n<p>The Blues finished 10th in the league last season, just nine points off the playoffs, and they have strengthened their squad considerably over the summer to boost their promotion hopes.<\/p>\n<p>The likes of Jhon Solis, Dael Fry, James Beadle, Luis Vazquez, Kristoffer Lund and Max Bird have all joined the club, while Kai Wagner, Kyogo Furuhashi and Jonathan Panzo have departed.<\/p>\n<p>Birmingham kicked off the new season with draws against Sheffield United and Bristol City, before picking up their first victory over fellow promotion contenders Wrexham last Friday,<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsmole.co.uk\/people\/phil-neumann\/\" title=\"Phil Neumann\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Phil Neumann<\/a> bagged a brace for the Blues to seal what head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsmole.co.uk\/people\/chris-davies\/\" title=\"Chris Davies\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chris Davies<\/a> branded a \u201cbig win\u201d over a \u201creally good side\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Davies was also delighted with the way Birmingham \u201cgot ourselves together\u201d and bounced back after getting thumped 6-1 by Premier League side Brentford in the EFL Cup just three days earlier.<\/p>\n<p>However, it is worth noting that Birmingham have not beaten Southampton in their last six meetings across all competitions.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-img-id=\"160683\" class=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/https:\/\/sportsmole-media-prod.s3.gra.io.cloud.ovh.net\/uploads\/2026\/06\/imago1076746007-6a1ea356694a51.webp\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a9 Imago \/ Pro Sports Images<\/p>\n<p>Southampton, meanwhile, look to have found some form in the league after starting the season with a 2-1 defeat to Watford.<\/p>\n<p>They bounced back a week later with a 3-1 win over Stoke City and thumped promotion contenders Millwall 5-1 on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Cyle Larin bagged a brace against Millwall, while Finn Azaz, Leo Scienza and Tom Fellows were also on target as Southampton produced a statement performance against a side that were top of the table and finished third last season.<\/p>\n<p>Head coach Tonda Eckert was delighted with his team\u2019s performance, but insisted there is \u201ca lot more to come\u201d and that Tuesday\u2019s clash with Birmingham will \u201cdemand a lot from us\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bM8\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsmole.co.uk\/football\/birmingham-city\/\" title=\"Birmingham City\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Birmingham City<\/a> Championship form:<\/p>\n<p class=\"bM8\">Birmingham City form (all competitions):<\/p>\n<p class=\"bM8\">Southampton Championship form:<\/p>\n<p class=\"bM8\">Southampton form (all competitions):<\/p>\n<p>Team News<img decoding=\"async\" data-img-id=\"163664\" class=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/https:\/\/sportsmole-media-prod.s3.gra.io.cloud.ovh.net\/uploads\/2026\/08\/scienza-6a7f8e0e24c91167166762.webp\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a9 Iconsport \/ PA Images<\/p>\n<p>Birmingham could be forced to make at least one change after Demarai Gray picked up a shoulder injury against Wrexham, with Patrick Roberts in line to replace him.<\/p>\n<p>Solis and Tomoki Iwata are expected to continue in midfield, while Neumann will once again start alongside captain Christoph Klarer at the back.<\/p>\n<p>Southampton could also be forced into a change as Flynn Downes suffered an injury against Millwall, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsmole.co.uk\/people\/james-ward-prowse\/\" title=\"James Ward-Prowse\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">James Ward-Prowse<\/a> in line to make his first start since rejoining the club.<\/p>\n<p>Larin is expected to continue leading the line after his brace on Saturday, with support out wide Scienza and Kuryu Matsuki.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Birmingham City possible starting lineup:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Beadle;
