{"id":1178955,"date":"2026-08-31T12:48:13","date_gmt":"2026-08-31T12:48:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1178955\/"},"modified":"2026-08-31T12:48:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T12:48:13","slug":"tyne-and-wear-metro-photography-captures-candid-moments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1178955\/","title":{"rendered":"Tyne and Wear Metro photography captures candid moments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">An online photography exhibition has captured everyday life on the Tyne and Wear Metro.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Terminus, by Newcastle-based documentary photographer Sasha Mallo Tardiveau, chronicled the final two years that the original train fleet was running across the north-east of England.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Mallo Tardiveau spent many hours travelling on the system between 2024 and 2026 &#8211; as the new Metro trains replaced the old ones &#8211; meeting people and taking their pictures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">She said people were &#8220;at the heart of this project&#8221;, adding the project was about &#8220;things that seem mundane, but when you see the photo of that moment, it tells a story&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The last original Metro train completed its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/videos\/cdx7errzdk4o\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">final journey in June<\/a> after 46 years in operation, following a project to replace the ageing fleet with 46 Stadler trains at a cost of \u00a3362m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Mallo Tardiveau said: &#8220;My photos show life during the end of an era for our region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Metro has been a part of my life almost daily, and these last two years of work have been like capturing a chapter in our region&#8217;s history.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"An online photography exhibition has captured everyday life on the Tyne and Wear Metro.
