{"id":1179143,"date":"2026-08-31T15:35:17","date_gmt":"2026-08-31T15:35:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1179143\/"},"modified":"2026-08-31T15:35:17","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T15:35:17","slug":"everton-forced-to-move-carabao-cup-tie-with-wolves-at-short-notice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1179143\/","title":{"rendered":"Everton forced to move Carabao Cup tie with Wolves at short notice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Although the EFL appealed to Uefa to change the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/football\/teams\/liverpool\" class=\"ssrcss-1fqyhkk-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Liverpool<\/a>-Atletico game date, European fixtures take precedence and the request was rejected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The move means <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/football\/teams\/everton\" class=\"ssrcss-1fqyhkk-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Everton<\/a>&#8216;s game with Wolves will now be played on Wednesday, 16 September, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/football\/teams\/liverpool\" class=\"ssrcss-1fqyhkk-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Liverpool<\/a>&#8216;s Carabao Cup tie against Spurs brought forward by a day to Tuesday, 15 September.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A further knock-on effect is that Wolves&#8217; Championship game against Portsmouth must now be played after the first international break, on 20 October, rather than take place in September.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The EFL has apologised for making the changes at short notice but says it has been left with &#8220;no option&#8221;, adding that Uefa&#8217;s &#8220;unwillingness to co-operate&#8221; is &#8220;frustrating&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Uefa&#8217;s expansion of its club competitions at one point seemed as though it would spell the end of two-legged EFL Cup semi-finals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">That has not happened, but there has still been a notable impact.
