{"id":1179151,"date":"2026-08-31T15:41:18","date_gmt":"2026-08-31T15:41:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1179151\/"},"modified":"2026-08-31T15:41:18","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T15:41:18","slug":"roedeans-niamh-green-to-lead-st-georges-in-edinburgh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1179151\/","title":{"rendered":"Roedean&#8217;s Niamh Green to lead St George&#8217;s in Edinburgh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img width=\"800\" height=\"533\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Niamh-Green-Pic-St-Georges-School-PR-Jim-Chamberlain.jpeg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-image-40503\" alt=\"Niamh Green, St George's School\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  \/>Niamh Green Pic: St George&#8217;s School<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">St George\u2019s School in Edinburgh has appointed Niamh Green, who currently leads Roedean in Brighton, as its next head.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Green takes up the role at the independent school for girls\u00a0in Edinburgh next year\u00a0and brings more than 20 years\u2019 experience in girls\u2019 day and boarding education.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She will take the helm as St George\u2019s becomes the only all-girls all-through school in Edinburgh, since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.schoolmanagementplus.com\/bursars-finance\/edinburgh-schools-relaunch-under-shared-identity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">the merger of Mary Erskine School and Stewart\u2019s Melville College<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Green will succeed Carol Chandler-Thompson, who has led St George\u2019s since August 2022 and leaves next year to take up the role of group education director at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nlcsinternational.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">NLCS International<\/a>. Mrs Chandler-Thompson will remain connected to the school as a member of council.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tracey Ashworth-Davies, chair of council at St George\u2019s, said: \u201cNiamh\u2019s breadth of experience, across teaching, boarding, pastoral leadership and headship, combined with her strong commitment and expertise in the education of girls, made her the outstanding choice to lead St George\u2019s forward. I could not be more confident in her ability to build on the legacy and historical foundations of the school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mrs Green joined Roedean as head in 2023 and this year the school achieved its best A-level and GSCE results in the last ten years. She was also in post when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.schoolmanagementplus.com\/bursars-finance\/roedean-opts-against-mill-hill-merger\/?swcfpc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Roedean considered, then decided against<\/a>, plans to join the Mill Hill Education Group earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Previously, she was acting head at Mayfield School, deputy head (pastoral) at Godolphin School and a housemistress at Sherborne Girls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prior to that, she was head of upper school at Woldingham School and a teacher at the International School Luxembourg. She is a serving ISI inspector, sits on committees at both the Heads\u2019 Conference (HMC) and the Girls\u2019 Schools Association (GSA), and is a governor at Marymount School in London.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mrs Green said: \u201cStepping into the role of head at St George\u2019s is a real honour.
